lomkh, i’m sad to head that about ucb…does the same apply for LA as well? or to most of the UCs for that matter ? i’m out of state and before last year, i didn’t even know about the UC system, so excuse my ignorance.

Background: High school flunky… well i barely passed… I didnt get a good start in high school in the first place and during junior year i had issues with my gf so my grades during high school were all Ds and Fs…

Then i got the sudden idea that you dont need to be a genius to get in a respectable school… I took about 30 units during my senior year of High school. well i have to say its true because i have a 3.8… now =)

EC’s After HS: Treasure of Phi Theta Kappa (International Honor Society), sales in the jewelry business, data entry, accounting work, and property management.

Background: High School was so-so. In my sophomore year I decided to go to a continuation school and finished a year early, so instead of this being my second year at a CCC, it would have been my first. I can speak 3 languages: Cambodian, Chinese (Mandarin), and English. Dean’s Honor List

Other Info: I am in the Scholars program (TAP), but will not be TAP certified before I transfer.

I don’t actually know, i think most uc’s accept sophomore transfers and i know someone who transferred to la as a sophomore a few years back but i don’t know if they’ve changed it, as far as i know ucb is the only uc that stopped accepting sophomores…but i haven’t really looked at the other uc’s all that much so i can be wrong about that…

Chance Me!
UC-UC transfer
Current college: UCR
transfering to: UCI or UCSD (maybe UCLA)
GPA: 3.83
Major: Math

EC’s: a bunch of stuff. Vice president of a pre-professional organization for Optometry, Did a one year CALPIRG intership and participated in a ton of politic events. Another weekend intership at an Optometric office. Dean’s List all three quarters, and thus, I am on the Chancelor’s List. An Honor’s Student.

I will have complete all GE’s that UC’s require. (I will have my UC Letter of Reciprocity signed for a B.S. degree which is what I’m going for). All lower division math courses at my school will be completed and I have crossed checked them with UCI and UCLA and I seem to have covered what I’m supposed to.

I really would like to know my chances. I’ve talked to UCI admissions and sometimes I get someone saying you have like a 10% and others saying I have a great chance. There saying it has to do with the overflow of community college kids and the economy. But alot of people seem to have gotten into UCI from a UC just fine (this is according to the stats of UCstatfinder). I would like to know what you guys think my odds are :)

^ I’d think you get into UCLA if you apply… It’s harder to earn a 3.83 at a UC than a CC, especially with the weird curve gpa system. Hah. UCI and UCSD are both definitely yours.

Aiming for UCLA
transferring from UCD to UCLA
Major:Mechanical Engineering
cumulative GPA 3.0

i screwed up the last quarter and got C in Vector Analysis and C in Linear Algebra, B- in ge and B- in English. I had mediocre grades during my fall and winter quarters. Almost all Bs. But i am pulling my grades up this quarter after knowing i can do inter-UC transfer. I hope it’s not too late.

courses i am taking this quarter are

differential equations
physics:waves and Optics
engineering design
engineering programming

EC: private math tutor during summer and apprentice to a contractor over the summer as well.

my another big obstacle is that i have some difficulties with the personal statement because the topic is vague and writing has never been my expertise.

What do you think?

Santa Monica College Student
Fall 2010 transfer, will have junior standing. I’m in my third fall semester right now.

3.8 college GPA, IGETC completed
Psychobiology major (two psych classes, and all but physics finished for other prereqs)
Upward trend in GPA, came up from 3.5
Will have ~70 units by spring '10

ECs: not much during community college as ive had jobs the entire time (unrelated to my studies). I think I’m going to start attending a pre-med club
Essays: Writing has come pretty naturally to me over the years; I feel proficient enough without any external help to write a great personal essay.

Schools applying to: Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD (ucla is my first choice, berkeley a close second)

My stats:

CA community college student - Cypress
Fall 2010 transfer, will have junior standing

3.36 college GPA, all classes transferable to UCs
Political Science Major
Will have pre-reqs, IGETC, and 60 semester units complete.
Honors Program
ECs: Honors Club, PoliSci Club, Internship with Congressman, part-time job (consistent employment), Attended Conference at United Nations, Meeting with Swedish Ambassador to UN.

Essays: Planning. Im a pretty string writer.

Applying to: Berkeley, LA, SD, UCI, and SB

Pabl0izh3r3- I think that Berkeley and UCLA are a reach but all the others you’ve got a shot. Political Science is an impacted major.

Could someone please chance me? I don’t mean to keep asking, I’m just curious what my chances are for UCLA. I posted my full stats on this thread in the last page, but to summarize:

3.57 GPA at end of this Fall.
Major: Psychology
3.8 Major GPA

IGETC completed
all but 1 major req completed.

2 volunteer organizations.

pretty strong writer.

^^^ I think you are borderline. The average gpa of admitted students last year was 3.70 for psychology. You do, however, have the extra things that may work in your favor. Write a really strong essay and you may find yourself a bruin this time next year.

Thanks, I really appreciate that you helped out. Good to hear that I have a shot. Thanks again.

UCHopeful, where did you find the statistics of the GPA for psych majors? I am curious as to what the GPA was for Social Welfare majors at CAL

chance me

Aiming for UCLA

i am hoping for a 3.8 to 4.0 this quarter…i hope UC likes upward trend

i screwed up the last quarter and got C in Vector Analysis and C in Linear Algebra, B- in ge and B- in English. I had mediocre grades during my fall and winter quarters. Almost all Bs.
my another big obstacle is that i have some difficulties with the personal statement because the topic is vague and writing has never been my expertise.

I am applying to UCLA, UCI, and UC Berkeley.

All input is welcomed and encouraged–especially from my fellow English majors…!

for soph transfers, do ucs look at hs test score and gpa at all? b/c then most soph xfers only have a semester or two of coursework to show on their apps…
and ucb crushed my dream of applying as a soph xfer…:'(
