Contacting Admissions

I submitted my undergrad application about 2 weeks ago and noticed a mistake on OASIS/application status area. I've eMailed them twice and attempted to call admissions on three separate dates at several different times each day. I call early morning, early afternoon, and then about an hour before they close... I can't get anyone! I sit on hold for about 20-45 minutes and give up.

On a similar note I met an FSU med student who said USF lost his med. school application but cashed his application check, and also had a hard time getting in touch with anyone. I'm getting a little disappointed at this point. USF's public health program appeals to me but I'm a little concerned after this.

Anyone else experience(ing) similiar issues?

How can I get in touch with someone in admissions to correct an error on my application without driving ~6 hours to Tampa?

you just have to call… it’s a busy time of year. although I have a hard time believeing you were on hold for that long, all of the times you called. just be patient. admissions direct number is 813-974-3350

Every time, shortest call was 19min 54sec. I talked to an operator and she said the same thing; “Keep trying, they’re busy, 70 lines going in…”. It’s frustrating because I can get someone in FSU admissions in around 10-15 minutes. Oh well, nothing to it but to keep trying. If I can’t get anyone I’ll try to deal with it when I go for a campus visit.

I was on the phone with an admission officer in USF’s graduate admissions office a few days ago asking if they would double check on forwarding some of my recommendation letters to the USF dept I’m applying to, and the lady admitted they were having some some screw ups with some changes recently made with their computer software system. The main graduate admission office is a middle man to the different depts. and schools like the medical college. The medical college applications are more complicated to handle because they include lots more stuff like confidential recommendation letters, etc.

Other graduate schools I applied to have all sorts of screw ups too. One other university had all my application messed up because they jumbled my stuff, including transcripts, with my sister’s who attends that same school and had a part-time job in the same dept! When I would phone they would address me by my sister’s name. That same college sent emails recently to all applicants telling them not to email or phone anymore until admission decisions are released. Another university has had a lot of personnel changes, decisions are being delayed months, and they had most of their office phones removed to save money–the staff are using their personal cell phones. It’s a job applying to any college these days, especially it seems with colleges being forced to do more with less.

Keep phoning USF, if you don’t get them on phone–leave your name and return phone number and a brief message and they’ll do whatever needs to be done or will call you asap!

Look up Jonathan Earnest and call or email him directly. He’s who came to my school and spoke about USF and he’s also who I dealt with when I had to submit an amendment to my undergraduate app to change from summer to fall; he’s very prompt and helpful. He still calls me about once every month or two trying to get me to come do a campus visit. And yes, he works in admissions.

I’ve called USF about 3-4 times in the last month and each time it was about a 15-20 min wait. You must happen to call during particular peak hours. Try in the late morning.

I finally got someone first thing this morning. I guess as soon as admissions opens is the best time to contact them. Otherwise I’ve called around 10am, 1pm, and 3pm their time zone.

The person I finally got in touch with was very helpful. It makes up for the rude operator.

Thanks for the advice guys and gals.
