Coping with rejections

K… anxious senior here, starting to hear all the college decisions back.

I applied to 12 schools total. Heard from 7, and 5 more to go :stuck_out_tongue:

I applied to many reach schools which I took a risk of getting rejected and just applied cuz it NEVER hurts to try. But then again, when you actually get rejected, it does hurt (just got rejected from Northwestern here :P).

Now I’m waiting to hear from some schools I’ve dreamed of going. When I got rejected from NU and wellesley, I didn’t REALLY care cuz I only applied cuz of my parents :stuck_out_tongue: But next week… I’m afraid I’ll get crushed lol I got into some good schools but still…

How do you guys cope with rejections when got rejected from your dream school? I have some depression issue as well… so I’m just going nuts here lol

well grad school is much more important, so just do well in the next four years and you still have a chance at ur dream school.

My dream school was MIT, and I got rejected too, so let me share what I did.

I allowed myself to be upset for about 4 hours. I mean I didn't cry or anything, but I moped, and I sighed, and I even whined. Then I got mad, saying "well I don't need MIT, and I'll be better off without them! They don't know what they're missing!" But by the next day, I was pretty apathetic about it.

If you really think about it, college is what you make of it. You can be successful without going to an Ivy league school, or MIT, or any other big "name." The whole college experience is based on how much effort you want to put into it. I know people who go to mini-state schools for undergrad and end up at Harvard or wherever for grad school.

But the truth is, going to some top-notch Ivy school may not allow you to achieve your dream, and going to some mini-state school is not going to stop you. Oh, and if you get rejected, you may get sick of the cliches, but they do help: play the hand you're dealt, do the best wherever you go, and don't let anyone stop you from doing what you want to do. College is college. It is not your life-sentence.

hhboyji, what school do you go to? 'coz i go to school in alexandria (not the city of alexandria, tho). anyway, sorry to hear about northwestern and wellesley; if it makes you feel slightly better i'll prolly be weeping w/ ya in a few days, hehe.

I just got waitlisted at Wellesley, which hurt. But i got over it- i applied to a bunch of schools and im pretty sure ill end up somewhere nice. I dont think any of my reach schools will accept me, but hey, ill live. good luck to all of you and amen, anijen21.

hmm..well it helps not to be alone after dealing with any kind of rejection...spend time with your friends and family, it will help you remember that the people you love are more important to you than any BS college

heres my take: youll wind up about where you're meant to go. if you fall just short of ur potential, at least you should be able to scrape up a real nice gpa to make up for the difference when applying to grad school.

and about dealing directly with rejections: i was rejected from MIT. just suck it up and move on. success wont stop to pity you.</p>

really, just let yourself be happy wherever you wind up. im sure itll be a great school. youll make friends that youll be glad you went there.

taurustorus>>I go to Edison HS. IN DA GHETTOS :D

Thanks for all your comments :D I knew it all along that the name of the school doesn't matter, but not really by heart I guess :P

I have 5 schools in my hand that I have choices of going. Not really eminent as Northwestern or wellesley, but very fine schools indeed. Good luck to all of you, and hope you guys end up wherever makes you happy :D
