@indianboy2400 thanks for all the information. So do u think that this year they will probably release the email the first Friday of March again?
@DonkeyKong466 I’m not 100% sure when they’ll release decisions, but seeing the trend from past years (I think it got sent out on Friday as well for the past three years), I think it’ll be then. Mine came on Friday, March 6th at 4:57 PM Central Time. It actually went into my junk mail haha, but since I was expecting to hear back, I kept checking all my inboxes that day (was a snow day for me) and was pleasantly surprised.
Just saw Chancellor’s came out and (im)patiently waiting
@Zeppelin7 Where did you see it?
Are internationals eligible to receive the scholarship? I did apply, but it does not seem like internationals receive it.
Yes, I did and I am an international student. I know two more in my year who did as well.
I hardly think Vandy is “behind the curve” on scholarship weekends. Schools that make such weekends mandatory in my experience only…are those who put undue stress on families and tax the time constraints that seniors in high school cope with daily. I think it is pretty great that Vandy makes the decisions for their merit offers without any more fanfare than the written application essays and extra references. (The Ingrams have always had the extra layer of on-campus evaluations, and I get that some named scholarships should expect distinctive and ongoing service to the university.)
Even though my Chancellor’s Scholar was one of those highly verbal people who likes to make oral presentations, I feel that evaluative on campus weekends for semi finalists can sometimes do a disservice to students who may not be adept at talking and mingling at age 18-- but who may have tremendous potential. Everyone knows that you are nothing if not a “changeling” at the age of 18 before you have banked some years at college and at life.
The CVS proposed tour mentioned by a current CV is not mandatory or evaluative but just an attempt to upYield and/or to be hospitable…as many CV scholars have multiple offers.
Since Vandy is no longer a regional school, students from very far away may have to make their decisions based on few if any hours spent on campus at all.
For that matter, anyone who is admitted to Vandy has multiple offers and is likely to get perks at their state flagships. If you can’t make it to the designated date for CV scholars invites, you can come to campus independently throughout April if your son or daughter must take one more look before making a final decision. It is always thrilling to get a full tuition offer at a fine university like Vanderbilt, but CV Scholars will pay for their room and board if their family EFC is higher. Sometimes a full ride elsewhere or the fact that some CVs will not pay much tuition anywhere because of financial need takes the day away from Vandy.
Our son stayed in our hotel room for an entire afternoon mulling over his final “best” merit offers when in Nashville in April. He had a hard time picking up the phone and turning down another school that did have a mandatory and evaluative weekend planned for the very next week in April. While I recognize that every school has the right to vet out the most potentially loyal, compelling and motivated students for their merit scholarship positions, I personally do not like it when they wait till April to further “evaluate” finalists on merit weekends. My son was just plain worn out with the “tryouts” and didn’t even go to the evaluative weekend at the other fine private school. Our son is a comfortable public speaker so it wasn’t that he was averse to giving a presentation. Another highly ranked state flagship called him in April and he was told he had to come to the college forthwith and to have a ten minute entertaining presentation ready (on a topic selected by the merit winners the year before) for a panel of faculty judges. I think there were 10 finalists for two full rides. But traveling and staying on campus the whole weekend was required. Seniors in high school have obligations out the kazoo in their schools. He declined, as did another classmate. These decisions should have much to do with family financial resources and with other personal “fit” factors. If they want to meet the semifinalists to judge them further imho, they really shouldn’t wait till April.
@Snapapp One of my friends got it!
There’s also a new FB page for it called The Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars of Vanderbilt University.
One of your friends has heard about the scholarship for this year, Zeppelin7?
@pdxcwa he’s talking about Chancellor’s, not CV
My understanding in that Chancellor’s and CV are announced in early-mid March. I do believe that some number of these scholarships may be awarded earlier to Mosaic designees, so that may be the cause for confusion.
MOSAIC is Vandy’s multicultural/diversity recruitment program, right?
@whitespace yes
@pdxcwa Yeah. My friend received Chancellor’s
Quick question. Next Friday will they call you if you got the scholarship or will they just say the final decision in the email.
I think it’s just in the email but I’m not sure @DonkeyKong466
It’s an email notification.
How do we know it’s next friday? That’s in 9 days!
@tutututututuru I’m pretty sure that guess is based off of past years’ notifications. To me, it’s even harder to believe that we’ll be getting decisions back in 36 days!
