They didnt check my mid year box either and i sent 1st quarter grades as well, so dont worry about it

CAS ED, never heard from Cornell Admission about Grades request.
The Mid year box isn't checked off as expected.

not sure. it took a while for the box to be checked off on my status. my counselor said that it was processing time.

stop worrying about first quarter grades, the only logical explanation to why some had to send first quarter grades are these...

First Explanation: The student was obviously qualified and they admitted them without further grades

Second Explanation: The student was obviously not qualified, and even if they had gotten straight A's it wouldn't have mattered

Third Explanation: The student seemed qualified, but their courses this year are 10x harder than last years and so they wanted to see how the student did in these harder courses before making a decision

Fourth Explanation: The student was borderline acceptance and borderline deferral, if the first quarter grades were good, the student gets in, if not, deferred and wait for semester grades for mid-year report.

To me this makes the most sense for Cornell either contacting you or not contacting you. I hope most of us fell into the first explanation, and that the ones that were contacted fell into the fourth, and that their grades were good.

Good luck

I might have to refute my above post, i was just talking to my guidance counselor, and she said
"by the way Cornell had asked for your first quarter grades, just to let you know" So now I am wondering if they do this for everyone, or for few, and for a few is it a good thing or bad, i am now more nervous than ever, i wish she just didn't tell me, luckily i got good grades in all classes and A's in my Math and Science Classes for Engineering

I think it's a sign of bad news generally if they don't ask for first quarter grades. Generally, I think they would only ask those students who are borderline, and not bother with those who are definitely accepted or definitely rejected. :(

Seriously, after graduating college, i wanna be an adcom so I can figure out what the **** is going on!

Maybe we can get work-study jobs in the admissions office if we get in...

im with towerpumpkin, if i get in i would love to see what goes on

Mid year report is something different. You will probably send it when you get accepted, after the first semester.

Hmm, it looks like they've asked only Engineering students to send their grades.. I think.

I'm applying Engineering, and I haven't been asked to send quarter grades. I just hope that I fall into the first category of psquared theory.

my mid- year report box is checked off...

Umm....have your first term grades come out yet? If so, you have a really weird school system...

no, they were definitely first quarter grades. my counselor sent them in early november because they were really good and she thought they might help. my first semester grades haven't come out yet. maybe cornell screwed up and thought they were my 1st term grades? but that wouldn't make sense, because i thought that they only asked for a mid- year report after you got in. maybe i should contact cornell.

Hey people, if any of you have applied to Cornell and gotten in or not, could you tell us your first quarter grade experiences?

Up until this afternoon i had thought i didn' thave my first quarter grades sent in, then my counselor told me when i was talking to her that cornell had asked for them, so maybe they do it for everyone, if anyone who thinks theirs was not sent could ask their counselor tomorrow that would be great, it would clear up a lot of confusion, i hope i fall into a fifth categor of my ideas

Fifth situation: They are considering accepting you and want to see your grades to make sure they want you.

I wish they would just what they do on their site.

ok so obviously if they asked for grades you were borderline and all of you who submitting your Q1 grades and they were good then you are all in and if they were bad you are either deferred or rejected

Can anybody from last year's ED confirm this?
