Cornell Engineering

I'm an international student. Does I stand a better chance to get admitted into Cornell Engineering if I apply thorugh ED?

Academic
GPA 3.92 unweighted..
top 5% of my school..
rank 1st from 2003 to 2007
SAT score (projected >2000)
SAT II (going to take this Nov 1, Physics, Math 2, US History)

Yes. Especially if you don't apply for financial aid.

what is my chance?
50/50? or 30/70?

If you can get a 770 or higher on the Math?

Upwards of 70 percent ED, especially if you don't apply for financial aid.

Where are you from, internationally?

Malaysia..

Thanks..

Yeah. If you don't apply for financial aid and have a 770+ Math, I would say you are golden ED.

RD it is always a crapshoot.

Ummm....I though Cornell admitted on a need-blind basis...

Cornell University - Admissions - Overview

He's not from North America.

Lol
Is that a joke that north americans don't really do need blind?
I don't think it matters because there's not as much international aid outside of Mexican and Canadian citizens for internationals. I'm pretty sure of this. But collegeboard says there is a little. So I don't know.

Admissions is need-blind for U.S., Canadian and Mexican citizens.

Admissions is not need-blind for internationals because Cornell does not have a large endowment for international students financial aid. According to this article (Cornell Chronicle: Tata trust gives $50 million to Cornell) the endowment is enough to provide financial aid to a dozen new international students per year.

erm, i don't apply for financial aid

how if some of my activities and awards are as followed:
1) Recepient of 2008 Singapore Economic Development Board scholarship to study engineering in Nanyang Polytechnic (i'm frm malaysia:))
2) Recepient of 2008 Petronas scholarship (a multinational oil company)
3) President of a club aimed to raise awareness of AIDS (2007)
4) Treasurer of the same club (2006)
5) A member of school marching team (2003-2007)
6) Been doing community services occasionally and participate in charity run (2006-2008)
7) Certificate of Credits in Australian Mathematics Competition (2007)

Damn it.. I just get 2020.. CR 630, Math 800, W 610 (damn it).. Do I still have decent chance for ED?

sorry sorry.. the math part should be 780, not 800..

Yeah you still have a chance. From what I've read none of the colleges look at SATs and think that's everything. They look at things holistically:as a whole. So a bad score in one area won't affect you much if at all. 2000 isn't low. They'll see that you are as competitive as US residents and will then look at your impressive extracurrics.
We know you're not native to english but it still would be a good idea to retake soon. Since you're an international in another country and sats are a standardized test to see compare people "impartially" this will hurt you. Colleges want to know that you'll be able to handle the courses. You're english sats are slightly lower than average but your math is good and engineering is math. I reccomend that you contact cornell admissions by email and ask them how bad this is. Then tell them that you will retake the test to achieve a specific score when they say that they don't think it's perfect.
I'm harsh because you're an international.
I got a 780 on the math too. ESO must have made a mistake :(.

yeah math sucks...so apparently i can't do math but i can write...

got 800 in math section, 5 in AP calc, projected 5 in Calc BC, yet 740,750 and 780 the three times i took the sat?!?

and apparently i suddenly knew grammar, went up from 670 - 800 in writing. i was quite puzzled, yet happy.
