@hdaviirus Hopefully lol, we were on first name basis.
@lexluther96 I don’t want to start a political fight on a college transfer thread (I’m not really in the mood for it), so I’m gonna keep it just to this post. Believe me, I have thought a lot about my decision before I cast my vote in to invite him, I thought A LOT for weeks in fact. I realized something, us conservatives and your sides really don’t think alike. Both sides don’t really have the same mindset about how the world works. See to us, it doesn’t really matter who is speaking, it could be a communist, socialist, an anarchist, a racist, or someone like Milo. The president of our club in fact is a black girl who is a math major (so I guess that makes her a STEM major), and she was one of the biggest advocates of Milo (and the one who convinced me on my vote). We (the committee) realized that it is important to highlight the intellectual intolerance of college campuses, and most of us knew EXACTLY what was going to go down when Milo set foot on our campus. We were ready for it. Of course its your right to protest, but definitely not to hinder free speech. Do you have any idea how much press Milo got because of the protests? It made him xxx times more famous. I’m gonna guess that the opposite of what the protestors wanted.
I’m not at all what you would expect of a young conservative. I am a Bengali immigrant who came to the U.S when I was 7. And I do not take for granted for a second the rights that are given to me by our Constitution, many of which my birth country lacks. I don’t really appreciate you suggesting that I’d advocate for rape or molestation. I’ve never even heard Milo say anything that advocates for anything similar. I guarantee you that you do not understand Milo’s viewpoints. Some stuff he says is just to be provocative (he calls himself a provocateur), but others he is dead right about. They are simply conservative viewpoints which, like it or not, half the country believes in. But I want to emphasize again, it really doesn’t matter what he says as long as he is not actually instigating violence. Indeed most of the times it has been the protestors who start the violence first (and we had video cameras ready for this), and we wanted to show the country how ugly and intolerant the other side had become. The other side cares about diversity of all kinds, except for intellectual diversity, and this is the truth on almost all college campuses, but hopefully less so at Cornell.
Your depiction of his argument is incorrect. His main point is that women can’t handle competitive environments, and that many of them don’t end up pursuing the career they get the degree for, so their (apparently unfairly??) earned spot was a waste, which hurts men. (This also isn’t what is happening.)
Anyway, my point isn’t about what he is saying, it’s that there isn’t a war on free speech. My protesting oppressive beliefs does not in anyway infringe on someone’s ability to express them, but it does illustrate that there’s someone who won’t accept them.
Guys, please don’t start a political debate on this college transfer thread, there are plenty of other places to do that. I didn’t mean to start this off. This should be a community for us applicants to interact with each other and not be talking about politics, one of the most divisive subject matters right now. If you guys really want to, DM each other.
@Mastodon97 There’s a reason conservatives have limited representation in academia: the theory that bolsters their belief system is inconsistent. The founder of libertarianism admitted that it doesn’t work. Libertarianism is not about freedom, it’s about protecting property at all costs – even if that cost is another person’s life. Milo is a symbol of oppression. Protests are justified, and they do not hinder free speech.
I don’t want to talk politics. I wish you the best of luck tomorrow. Cornell is a great school. However, in the future, please consider what your endorsement of Milo implies.
@lexluther96 “I’m not gonna talk about politics but here is why your politics are wrong” To quote Republican Senator Goldwater “Conservatives think liberals are stupid, but liberals think that conservatives are evil” Based on how you write about conservatism and conservatives, my guess is that you have never really sat down and talked to any of them. I promise you that if this was a different environment I would take down your your idea “conservatism is an inconsistent theory” and thats the reason why college campuses have a minority conservatives (jeez I never thought I’d ever be the one to get triggered lol). But I’ll leave it at that. I know that I won’t change your mind, but as potential fellow classmate my final note to you would be to not think that lowly of us, we are your peers after all and I can very clearly tell that you do look down on us (based on your theory on why conservatives are a minority on campus which is the most bogus theory I have heard yet). Next time, feel free to open a dialogue with one of us and we would happily explain to you why we view the world differently. Good Luck to you as well
My application just got submitted for review today , but my midterm grades have not been checked off . Im a CALS applicant. Is it bad that my application is being sent for review now ?
@Mastodon97 Probably Cornell although Vanderbilt does just fine for NYC. I am somewhat curious as to why you’re transferring as a rising junior if your end goal is IBD. You’ll start junior year recruiting (internship that leads to FT offer) without a Cornell GPA, you haven’t networked with any of the alumni and you won’t have any leadership positions on campus. Why transfer from DePaul given that it isn’t a complete non-target (you can definitely network your way into the industry from that school)?
Sorry to everyone waking up to political bickering on this thread…didn’t mean to turn this into a CNN comment page
Irregardless I wanted to tell you all I was accepted this morning to ILR by phone call with Ian. I asked about rest of ILR decisions for you guys and he said that all of them will be definitely be released by next Friday. This was a great community to interact with and I hope to see you guys all in Ithaca this Fall! I’ll be sticking around if I can help around with anything else.
@somehmonggirl Thanks, I’m 90% likely going to Cornell (have to see my FA, hopefully its outrageous in a good way). I’d happily give you my spot if I could, you deserve it more than anyone in the thread, maybe I can bring it up to Parke lol
Great news and well deserved @Mastodon97 please stick around while we get our decisions soon haha.
Is there already a thread for accepted transfers? I assume that’s gonna be your next project lol. All in all, congrats!
@verizonwireless Thanks! Yes I did have to take out loans at my current school (believe me, there’s no way Cornell will be more expensive). My FA should be good (I haven’t got the actual FA information), I got a good estimate from the net price calculator. In my experience they are pretty accurate.
@MysteriousDude Thanks!, I don’t think there is one, I think we should start one when the next wave comes out. I don’t know if I mentioned this but Ian said that the next wave is gonna be on Tuesday.
