Cornell Fall 2017 Transfer

@financeguyjames I applied human ecology no decisions and no pin

@Mastodon97 thanks! And congrats on Vanderbilt by the way, where is your heart set on? I know we applied to a couple of the same schools lol

@ngujo96 Thanks! Its gonna be a very hard decision if I get accepted to ILR, both are obviously amazing schools. I think I would probably lean on going to Cornell but I’ll have to see some factors like the FA that they offer me, because Vanderbilt’s FA was soo amazing :slight_smile: Good Luck with Vanderbilt! I know we have the same counselors.

Anybody applying to ILR heard anything new?

@Mastodon97 ILR applicant here and I still haven’t heard anything. My app was sent for review on the 12th of April, and I checked the pin trick today, and it said it couldn’t locate my pin, so I guess it’ll be a while before they make a decision and I hear back from then. The wait is killing me a little bit.

Do you guys know if students are required to live on campus all 4 years?

@HopefulCollege95 I can’t agree with both of you more! Congrats! @theroadishome
@ILR2020 I am also an international student from China, currently attending Boston U. Even though my current program (journalism) ranks top 5 in the US, I still decided to apply to Cornell because Cornell is the only school that offers Communication and Social Influence, which is exactly I want to study.
Everyone wants to get into better schools but should not try to get into better schools only because those schools rank higher.

@Mastodon97 No i don’t think so cuz so many upperclassmen live off campus

could anyone please clarify on engineering department decision announcement dates or whatever. if anyone knows sth, thanks

@packman012 Are you being serious?

@HopefulCollege95 You obviously don’t know NYU. NYU is a extremely non-academic oriented college for undergrad: there are so many mediocre students here who are super rich and party all four years (. Moreover, most classes are taught by adjunct professors and they don’t really care about us because there are just so many students at NYU (25k undergraduate population). I came from a middle class family in China and I don’t really fit in here. I want a college with a good academic and social environment and NYU has neither. Most importantly, I am a international student so I have to pay 75k+ tuition, which is not really worth it if I can transfer to a better school (top 15) with a cheaper price. Yes, I do care about prestige. Why would I go to a school that has samilar or lower caliber than NYU? NYU is good school for people who have professional interests (business &a art) and want amazing internships, but sadly it does not have a conducive learning environment. I obviously have some academic reasons (interest in public policy) otherwise Vandy wouldn’t accept me.

*I am talking about NYU undergrad, not grad schools

Does everyone have access too
https://todo.newstudents.cornell.edu/fall-2017/transfer/todolist/

@CornellAEMplease i was able to log in… does everyone have access to it?

.

@CornellAEMplease I have access to it. But notice how it worked for ApplicantID but not NetID (or at least for me when given the two options to sign in). I think if you were accepted you will be able to access through NetID but since all of us are applicants, the ApplicantID one works for us

To the person who made the anti-NYU comments…while I agree it is not IVY level…it is nevertheless a very good school and highly ranked compared to ALOT of other schools and… to say it is non-academic is extremely ignorant…college is what you make of it and if you make use of all the academic opportunities NYU has to offer, I am sure you will not be making such unsubstantiated comments

If you are unhappy with NYU, that is your personal decision and you can definitely transfer… but saying that NYU is non-academic is an extremely harsh lie…I have many friends at NYU who are extremely academically motivated

@rik123 Yes! I agree with you 100%

@ILR2020 I am sorry that you have such a negative view of NYU, again that is your personal opinion (which I find very short-sighted). Also, NYU has excellent undergraduate studies with very motivated students, and also an excellent undergraduate public policy program (as well as an excellent masters one).
Also to say that any top 15 school is “better” than a school that is ranked very highly like NYU is a short-sighted statement, NYU has many academic resources similar to those school you can take advantage of. Also NYU has an excellent reputation, much like many schools in the top 15 (since you seem fairly obsessed with that number). People around the world hear NYU and respect the name and are very impressed. Again, I am sorry you are so unhappy there to decide to attack NYU’s academics (saying it does not have a good academic environment), but again, college is what you make of it.

@HopefulCollege95 Exactly … perfectly written!!!

Can we cool it with the NYU talk and keep the conversation toward updates in transfers and what not? I can’t be the only one who checks this thread thinking it’s an update and seeing it’s just another post about how great NYU is/isn’t.

What @panicattheapp said! I was accepted to NYU back on April 7th and I’ve stayed mum. Still no word from ILR for me. Be cheerful and kind!
