Cornell University Fall 2020 Transfer

I wish the best for all of you! I had a similar experience in HS, I had a low GPA, had a lot of hardships in life, and inevitably got rejected everywhere because I had no clue what to do.

I was also rejected at every school except one for transfer last year even when my GPA was higher.

To be accepted to CALS despite my difficult background would show that persistence and hard work can pay off.

Even though I have struggled with illness, my disability, death of a family member, having to take time off, and other hardships in college, I have not given up and managed to do great things in spite of this.

I hope that all of us will be accepted to Cornell, I think the sort of tenacity you all show by contintuing to pursue what you want is one of a kind.

I am currently applying to five schools, all of which (except for Cornell’s rolling decision process) have notification dates on May 15th. Right now I am just waiting, without any idea how I will do for any of these schools as I have no baseline to compare.

Hi all! I’ve been keeping up with this forum for about a month now and I’m finally joining so I can say:

You guys are incredibly kind, motivating, and supportive! A lot of forums like this tend to be mean, competitive, and condescending, but this one isn’t anywhere near it. You’re all great and I’m wishing all of you the very best! And for those of you that were rejected, please don’t let it hold you back from becoming an even better student and person. (Not to mention, you can always apply again. Maybe not as an undergrad but as a graduate! You never know. Or maybe you won’t ever apply again and that’s okay too. You haven’t lost anything. We are all living our own unique lives and that’s amazing.) No matter what, we all have to keep moving forward. I see all your hard work and dedication. You’re awesome!

As for me: I haven’t received a decision yet. I applied to CALS as a Plant Sciences major. I’ll be a sophomore next semester.

Good luck, everyone!

How do Spring semester transfers to Cornell work? Cornell is unique among the ivies to offer to that option.

I applied to Dyson for Applied Economics. If I get rejected, I am Going to attend the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University or Georgetown University (Decisions release on June 1st.)
I also got accepted to other schools that are not at the top of my list.

Although my chances of getting into Cornell are very low, I thought it was important to apply to other reach schools that are incredible for the major I want to pursue.

I knew that when I applied for transfer, It was important to not be stuck on one school and rely on one school. I want to leave my current school to pursue my career and my goals. I Also wanted to make sure I had other options that were similar to Cornell and the program that I applied to.

I know everyone here worked super hard and have unique stories. Whether you end up at Cornell or not, its important to understand and remember that everything happens for a reason and to always stay positive.

Good luck everybody and looking forward to Tuesday!

Does anyone know if Cornell will accept credit for pass/fail classes?

@TenTsewang4 I think they probably would. I would call them.

How would y’all feel about having your first semester at Cornell online?

Honestly, I am fine with it, I just really want to be there is some form.

So, if I am understanding this forum correctly:
A.) The decisions are released on a weekly basis every Tuesday
B.) You learn your decision through your application portal
C.) The longer you wait to hear your decision the more likely you are to get in (this was a theory I saw on here that intrigued me)
Let me know if I understand all this, please.

I agree with @zigwammy . I just want to be a part of it in whatever form. Ithaca feels like home to me & it’s worth the wait! I spent a few weeks there taking a class at Cornell. Loved every minute of it.

If school is online, i’d probably stay at my current institution or try to defer

@zigwammy all are correct except C. A longer wait does not equate acceptance. People get rejected every round

@aspiringgirl thank you!

You guys are all so kind and supportive! I can’t even emphasize enough how important those words are for me, especially being a person who has barely spoken in this thread lol. I hope we all can get in! I truly hope! And we can do something together next year! Fingers crossed!

I’m nervous guys. just out of curiosity, did anybody apply to any other schools?

My daughter applied to 13 schools in total - some Ivy, some state, some private. We wanted to make sure she had some options. The decision process of who got into which schools when she was a senior in high school seemed somewhat random, so we didn’t know how it would play out with the transfer process. She had the Transfer Option with Cornell but didn’t accept it because she was really committed to making it work at UNC CH. Looking back, this was a mistake. So far, she’s been accepted to Tulane, U of IL, and Bost U. Rejected from U Mich.

I applied to USC, Northeastern, U Washington, and Boston University with Cornell. I’ve only heard back from BU (acceptance), and if I don’t get into Cornell I’m pretty confident I’ll be going there - it was always my top choice out of the others.

I only applied to Claremont McKenna and Cornell. I am not sure what I will do if I get into both. I’m leaning towards staying at my old school because I just received some great opportunities

@trasfer4200 I am applying to UPenn, Stanford, Swarthmore, and Vassar as well, all of which have notification dates on the 10th or 15th, so Cornell might be the first school I hear back from.
