Cornell University Waitlist Class of 2022

@cardust I looked at Reddit but didn’t find the post… And also we don’t know if the student on Reddit applied for Human develop or other majors… But I have seen two people in this post saying they were given admission from other majors in HUMEC. Maybe they are already done with this college

Each college within Cornell has its own admission policy. Just because COE has openings for fall 2018, it doesn’t mean other schools do. Not every applicant on CAS WL is going to get an offer for spring 2019. It appears CAS is closed for fall 2018. They are only offering spring 2019 admission to a select few, and those select few are going to have to commit or they are going to offer those spots to others. As I have posted earlier, if you are interested in spring 2019 CAS admission, now is the time to let the adcoms know. The reason they are working through the weekend is because they want lock in their class before those applicants commit to other schools.

How do you know that CAS admission is closed for fall 2018??

@oldfort @boogiedad says that there are 300-400 spaces still available…?

They emailed applicants whom they want to offer spring 2019 admission, in the email they said Fall 2018 is full. Read the posts.
The thread has all schools going to their WL.

Cornell, like other schools, wants to lock in their students now.

But how is it even mathematically possible that A&S is completely full when they admitted less students this year and especially looking at this document: https://admissions.cornell.edu/sites/admissions.cornell.edu/files/Class%20Profile%202021v3.pdf

did cornell give any indication of when they’ll release final waitlist decisions by? also @grundeis there was a way larger application pool this year, so the % accepted will be less

Yield is up? Number of students may be down for the whole uni, but it may be different for each college.

@jessicala oh that sucks then:/ i guess there’s not much hope left

Sorry and yes I was stupid to give all that info I’m just pretty desperate at this point so…

@boogiedad It seems that oldfort is simply repeating the information that posters reported that Cornell sent them, so it seems legitimate to me. Also, the math does add up. Just because CAS is the largest school doesn’t mean they have the open spots. The open spots could all be from the other schools.

@grundeis I agree with Oldfort, CAS is probably closed for admission due to high yield. Cornell is only taking 60 students for Spring ‘19 admission for CALS & CAS (I quoted article and link is below):

“For the third consecutive year, Cornell has posted a record-high number of applications for admission. More than 51,000 students sought a place in the Class of 2022.

As that number goes up, the overall admit rate goes down, this year to an all-time low of 10.3 percent of the applicant pool. The university has admitted 5,288 applicants (including early decision candidates) and offered 6,684 students a place on a waitlist. Applicants to Ivy League schools were notified of their selection status March 28 at 7 p.m.”

“Cornell anticipates enrolling 60 freshmen in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences in January 2019, as part of the First-Year Spring Admission program. Cornell welcomed its third class of FYSA students this semester.”

You sound like an amazing student that any college would be privileged to have in its student body. I wish you the best wherever you end up!

Alright so I guess Cornell is done for all of us :frowning:

I can’t believe it they took people off of the CAS waitlist almost every year in the past 10 years and THIS year is going to be the one when they dont…

@NYCSenior Thanks! I didn’t get a transfer email btw. @Dreamlessnewmember I was surprised that she called from her personal phone. But that makes sense b/c she called today.

@grundeis funny how it works! but that’s life, i guess

well this sucks

ahhh cmon yall are already losing faith when nothing is decided yet? i’m not saying get your hopes up, but at the least don’t get down!

I mean there is no way they are gonna email people saying that “the class is full” and then randomly accept more people…

My only question is that if we don’t have chance of getting off then would they email us to say that? Or just we never hear from them??..

it’s pretty clear lol… I’m over this whole college process anyway. everyone around me is getting into great colleges but nothing has worked out for me and I keep getting my hopes up and it’s all just terrible bc I know I’m just as qualified as the other people who have had better outcomes
