COSMOS 2012 Waiting board 2.0

@vivng6991: don’t worry!!! your only a freshman right? I’m a sophomore this year, and I applied last year and got rejected too. You will DEF. Get in next year! don’t give up.

@dartmoorpony666 Yes I am. Thanks for the words of encouragement!! Did you get in this year?

Honestly I was super upset about it at first, but now I’m kind of just taking it as a good experience and motivation to work harder!

I was rejected  only problem now is that I never applied anywhere else… anyone know a decent program that is still accepting applications?

Accepted to Cluster 4: Earthquakes in Action at UCSD
I intend on accepting

Accepted to UCI’s Biomed. :)

Anyone else attending there? Or did I mistakenly choose UCI’s biomed over UCD’s?

Accepted into UCD’s Physics Cluster!!!

@bluexmarker UCD’s Biomed is by farrrrrr the most competitive cluster in all of COSMOS… so you can make the call LOL :]

Attn. all UCD kids! The Handbook is officially OUT! :D

Heyy, for those of you who got rejected, how did you find out?

What makes UCD’s biomedical cluster so much more competitive than UCI’s?

@bluexmarker Simply more people apply for the one at UCD. Over 350 apply for UCD Biomed, while about 100 apply for the one at UCI. However, I don’t really know why soe many more people apply for UCD than UCI.

If you want specific numbers, then look at this: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/1297289-cosmos-2012-waiting-board-22.html
It’s page 22, the 11th post down (should be by me LOL).

I was waitlisted for UCSD Cluster 2 and was told to email ucsd cosmos if I wanted to stay on waiting list. Of course I did that. Does anyone know if they will email us back saying they received our decision or not? Has anyone else been waitlisted and done this? Oh, and was anyone else accepted/waitlisted for UCSD Cluster 2 Engineering and Design Control of Kinetic Sculptures. Thanks!

I got rejected :D

^^I like how you are so cheery xD

I got rejected 2 years in a row. How humiliating…I should have applied to UCSC, or at least the earthquake cluster, instead of the bio ones.

I got accepted into UCI’s Cluster 7 the World of Molecules !!! So excited !

So here’s what the super nice COSMOS lady told me: they had a record number of applicants this year and a lot of people were rejected even with undeniably amazing stats. There wasn’t a set reason as to why one person was accepted over another…at least not this year. For next year, there’ll be a new review process. Unfortunately for this year (at least for those rejected) you could have been a remarkably skilled applicant but just didn’t get lucky. :

As anything in life, I guess it just comes down to luck. Definitely there’s some people on here who should have been accepted without a doubt but just didn’t get the luck of the draw. I hope that next year will be a different story for you all.

what did she mean by “a new review process”?

also, I wonder what made some people luckier than others :/

as for my rejection, I guess it all came down to not finding out about the award until it was too late, and ending up not listing it in my app. Maybe that was what those cosmos adcoms meant by luck.

I wonder what the new explanation will be when I get rejected again next year…

Read this on Wikipedia and I thought it was funny so I decided to post it on here LOL

“The California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) is a summer program for high school students in California for the purpose of preparing them for careers in mathematics and sciences. It is often abbreviated COSMOS, although COSMOS does not contain the correct letters to create an accurate abbreviation.”

Yeah, I always wondered where they got COSMOS from. :D

I’m a junior and I got accepted into UCSD’s Earthquakes Cluster, Cluster 4, but I am not sure if I should take it… I want to major in Electrical Engineering, which isn’t really related to Earthquakes.

I really want to get into a UC college like Davis or San Diego or Santa Barbara, but my Extra Curriculars are pretty poor…what do you guys think? Will attending the Earthquakes Cluster this summer make it easier for me to get into those colleges???
