COSMOS 2012 Waiting board 2.0

My DD was not accepted to UCSD. She is okay with it because she has already been accepted to the LEAD program at Caltech in Computer Science. Plus Google is sponsoring her and paying for most of her program costs. The Cosmos option would have cost me an additional $1500. My DD is a sophomore and wants to be an engineer. She has a lot of great EC’s especially in science and we are Latino.

Her friend got wait-listed to UCSD and for her 3rd cluster choice. I really hope she gets in because the UC’s are her dream schools. She too is a sophomore.

Sorry I don’t post grade or test stats.

Congratulations to those accepted or wait-listed. For others keep on applying. On average in my experience it takes about 5 applications to summer programs to get accepted to 1.

aaaaaa I got accepted into my first choice cluster, video game design at UCSC ;A; I was honestly really surprised because my stats were pretty average, though I feel like my essays were much better this year (I applied last year and got rejected). I actually screamed when I first saw it and my parents thought I saw a spider or insect LOL
Congrats to everyone else who got in, and good luck to everyone else in the future! \o/

@trading. yes i think the application status says whether you got in or not. I was in denial and compulsively checking because I thought they made a mistake. But i don’t think they did :(

haha we should have a pity party for all of us who were disappointed by the rejection/waitlisting

LOL if we have a party, the waitlisted people should not be invited because they were semi-accepted XD

also, don’t plunge into catatonic denial over this entire thing, unless all of the other backup programs you tried to do failed horribly as well (like me)

I only applied to COSMOS. :Y I keep thinking that they made a mistake too… poop. ._. I don’t think I’m going to fully accept it until I get the email

haha yeah I went through that period of denial last year too and then slept it off |DD;
Ended up going to debate camp instead last year, which was also a good experience I guess! Kind of wish I had gone last year still though since I was planning on taking physics at the local college over the summer this year to skip into AP Physics, so I don’t know what I’ll be doing now sob .______.

Oh yeah and also I emailed the person who sent me my rejection last year and asked them why I was rejected, saying that I wanted to apply again this year. I’m not sure if that helped me in the admissions process or if they even remembered me LOL but it’s pretty helpful! the guy wrote me a pretty long email that didn’t seem like one of those cookie cutter emails, which was cool. (Although I didn’t ask them right after results came out, since I’m guessing a lot of people email them now, but rather like… a month or two before applications started this year, haha)

How long do those who are waitlisted have to wait?

Son got accepted UCI - cluster 4 Biodiversity and Ecosystem (1st choice)

Any body else got into UCI?

omggg Cluster 8 UCD Chemistry of LIfe. anyone else going?

UCD Cluster 2 anyone?
Being an international applicant + female student really helped out!
I got rejected from my first choice camp SSP, which was extremely disappointing but I’m glad I have COSMOS to look forward to :)

Can sum1 help me ?? If I didn’t get an email or a website notification does that mean I got rejected ??

Emails are out. Here is the general language if you were not accepted.

Thank you for applying to the UCSD COSMOS Program. We regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission to the COSMOS program for summer 2012. Your strong background and interest in science and mathematics is impressive; however, due to the large number of applicants and limited size of the program, we were unable to accept every talented student who applied.

COSMOS faculty read every cluster application, basing their decision on several criteria including overall GPA, math and science GPAs, recommendation letters from teachers, prerequisite work, math and science extracurricular activities, and responses to the essay questions. This year was our most competitive year in the history of our program. For some of our most competitive clusters, only 18 out of over 200 applicants could be accomodated in the cluster.

Hope this info is helpful.

anybody in for Cluster 4: Earthquakes in Action at UCSD? Idk if I should go or get a summer job…

what does it mean when your application status says in progress and you haven’t received an email.

wait listed people have to wait until may 18 to see if any spots open up

@kirbysaur
I think my application status said that before I fully submitted it (the huge online thing, it would say “in progress” when I saved it, and after I submitted it, it turned to completed.)

@missiris: same cluster! can’t wait to meet you at UCD

i dunno because mine also said that when i was finishing up and then in april it said under review and now it says in progress again? thanks though
