COSMOS 2012 Waiting Board

Well I’ve lived in Indiana my whole life so I’m used to it. Also, who took the SAT on March 10? I can’t wait to see my scores in 5 days!

@conorsperry HOLY. CRAP. I toured SLO a few weeks ago and there was a guy from Indiana in my tour group! Are you him? Hahahaha. Btw, for engineering, if you plan on going to grad school, it doesn’t really matter where you go for undergrad. All they look at is your grades. Schools like Harvey Mudd and Caltech are GREAT schools, but they’re also for a specific kind of person. I’m not saying that in a bad way. All I can say is that I’m dedicated, but not THAT dedicated. Not mention, schools like that (and USC) are hella expensive. UCB is also an really great school (their engineering program is supposed to be amazing, i.e. better than SLO’s), but I don’t like the area and the school seems too big. But, those are just my opinions. Apply to all of them and see what happens! Also, check out the CC forums to get a glimpse of what actual students think.
Oh, and I would check out the preqs for applying to Caltech. My cousin was going to apply, but he didn’t know about them until really late. Hahaha.

UC Berkeley is a great school for engineering, but their program is tough to get into and tough to get out of with a high grade. It’s better to go to a school where you can be challenged but still be fairly confident about getting great scores.

@chocolatechipsss What major did you apply for at SLO? I briefly talked to a current senior there who applied for Materials Science, but he was from Washington state. Were you on the 9:10 engineering tour on March 5?

OMG. I WAS ON THAT TOUR. Did you have the blond BMED major and the dark haired AERO major as tour guides? Are you the guy that had blond hair and glasses? If you remember, I was the Asian chick with the Hello Kitty purse. Btw, I was accepted as a GenE major. :)

Oh Yeah! Yep, that’s me! What a small world!

That’s too funny. :]

LOL. I am so cracking up right now. HAHAHAHAHA.

Aside from this coincidence, how does COSMOS send their decisions? Is it through email or snail mail?

That is sooo weird! Haha.
@conor Yeah, it’s via email. They’re supposed to send it by May 1st, however, some get it before that date (usually mid April).

@conor Private message me if you want to email and ask any questions.

@chocolatechipsss When you’re not in class/doing something educational, what do everybody usually do at COSMOS? Like during free time in the evenings or on the weekends (excursions and such)? :]

I’m not going to lie, you’re going to be spending a lot of time with your cluster. As a whole, you’re pretty segregated from the rest of the clusters. You’ll make friends with other people, don’t get me wrong, but the majority of your time will be spent with your cluster mates. After a while, you guys will get really close. I still talk to the people in my cluster through the FB group, but I mainly keep in contact with the girls. GETTING BACK ON TOPIC, hahaha, after dinner, you can do pretty much whatever you want. Go downtown, bowl, randomly explore. XD Bowling is cheap, so you will bowl A LOT. Also, for some reason, I spent a lot of time (and money) at Starbucks. Around 9 or 9:30, you have a meeting with your RAs and you can’t leave the dorms after that, but you can hang out in the quad until 10. On Saturdays, there are pre planned field trips. Sundays are free days, which basically consist of sleeping in.
NOTE: 90% of your money will be spent on food. I had about $180 when I got there, but ended up spending about $250. You can only eat DC food for so long. LOL. Also, if you haven’t ridden a bike in a while, PRACTICE.

BIKING?! I love biking.

Sigh. I want to go to COSMOS even more now. LOL.

That was for UCD. I’m not sure how it is for the other campuses. LOL. Biking is the only way to get around at Davis.

Isn’t Davis the most bicycle-friendly city in the United States?

Conor, I wouldn’t be surprised. There’s more bikes than people. Also, you added me on FB really fast! LOL. Just message/post on my wall if you have any other questions.

NO ONE bikes around where I live. The bike trail is literally a spot for high schoolers to meet up at night and do stuff. :’( It’s awesome that Davis is like that. I’m pretty jealous…

lol that’s still better than my town, people do stuff and smoke everywhere

On a side note, who’s going on spring break soon?
