i think spring break starts in two weeks for us…and if i don’t plan for vacation soon I’m gonna have to go to swim practice the whole break T.T…lets hope the weather is gonna be nice

Spring break for me is in 2 weeks. Probably gonna head to Arizona for a bit. And of course study for the AP test. Question: anybody else have AP classes where if you pass the exam with a 5, your semester grade automatically jumps to an A?

Spring break starts this Friday for me. It only lasts for one week plus the following Monday though. I’m probably going to tour the Stanford campus (just because it’s beautiful, although I probably won’t go there even if I’m accepted because I don’t believe in going to prestigious schools for undergrad studies). Plus I’ll probably actually start studying SAT’s. I’ve only been taking practice tests but my score has miraculously been increasing. I can’t even think how much my scores will increase once I actually start studying! lol

My spring break was a few weeks ago, hence seeing chocolatechipsss in SLO. My school schedule runs pretty early compared the rest of the United States. I started this school year on August 8, and second semester ends for me on May 11, but I do not get out of school until May 25 since I have to do a “May Term” class for two week.

Cool! I was planning to visit Stanford and UC Berkeley over spring break, but AP tests are a month away (same time as COSMOS letters!)… >:(

On ANOTHER side note :), what AP exams are you guys taking this year?

I’ll be taking Calc BC, English Literature, Biology, both Physics C exams, and Statistics.

@ nicole
My school doesn’t have that, but I know a few schools that do.
@missiris
Sophomore year: AP Euro-4
Junior year: AP Art History-4, APUSH-4
Senior year: AP Gov, AP English Lit, AP Physics B, APCS (If you add religion, that’s my entire schedule. :D)
Spring break is after Easter weekend for me. Revisiting SLO and touring UCD.
@ conor
DO NOT DOUBLE SCIENCE/MATH YOUR SENIOR YEAR. DROP YOUR ZERO PERIOD. Trust me, colleges do not care.
Also, I hope I’m helping you guys!

@chocolatechipss The only reason why I’m taking AP Bio is because I had to fill an educational requirement for the State of Indiana, since I took General Physics my freshman year instead of General Biology. My only major science class next year will be AP Chem, and I might take Intro to Computer Science first semester and an exploratory Modern Physics class second semester next year for my electives.
P.S. I took AP Stats over the summer, so I didn’t double up in math this year.

Hahaha. Okay. Don’t overload yourself. Senioritis will hit and you will die a little inside every day if you take on too much. If you put Cluster 2 as your first choice, I can put in a good word with the profs since I have their emails, if you want. Also, since we’re FB friends, call me Alex. I’m still not used to the name chocolatechipsss. LOL.

@chocolatechipsss How’s the dorm room situation at COSMOS? (Sorry for all the questions -.- but it’s awesome that you went to COSMOS already.)

Yeah! Tell us more about your time at UCD It’s fun to read the stories.

Also: how was the research project? I’m deathly excited to try my own hand at research.

@missiris
I went to UCD, so I can’t speak for the other campuses. I’m pretty sure there are layouts on the respective COSMOS websites. For UCD, there were two types of rooms. The first kind had three rooms (A, B, and C) with A and C sharing a bathroom while B had their own bathroom. The second one (that I wasn’t in) had only two rooms, but all four shared the one bathroom and one room connected to it. You’re not in your dorm that much, except when you’re grabbing something and sleeping.
@ sourpigy
My final research project was to discuss the viability of an alternative energy. I got a really easy one (geothermal), but there were some really hard ones (piezoelectricity, nuclear fission with a focus on plasma, hydrogen fuel cells). I was given a lot of time in the library and had to give a ten minute presentation on my paper, but the time went by really fast. Trust me. I’m pretty sure that not every cluster does a real research paper like I did, but most do and each one has a different one.
And… I had so many good times there. I can’t even begin to describe them. When I was accepted, I read on an old COSMOS thread that the time there will change your life and the experiences are unforgettable. That’s all true! I didn’t know it until afterwords. Two of my suite mates became legit best friends and talk an insane amount every day. On the last day, my mom overheard a girl telling her mom, “I made four best friends in one month.” For me personally, I grew closer to the girls in my cluster than the girls I’m friends with at school and have known for almost four years. PLUS, I’m not ashamed to say it. I cried on the last day when everyone was leaving and cried even more when I was in the car on the way home. Every person’s experience is different, but I hope everyone who gets accepted has an amazing time like I did.

If anyone has any specific questions, PM so I can give you my email. :)

Ooh. I’m really excited! Although, I shouldn’t gget my hopes up. The more I get my hopes up the more I can imagine the rejection letter T_T

By the way, if you get accepted, can you ask to be put in a different cluster if there’s room in it? :S I kind of regret putting Mathematical modeling of Biological systems as my third instead of my 1st or 2nd.

You can try and email, but it’s not likely. They have a lot of apps to get through.

OMG T_T I should stop asking questions. I want to go even more now… which will make it hurt even more when I don’t get in. LOL.

@missiris That’s exactly how I feel! I’ll be very disappointed if I don’t get in, but at least I have backup plans. If COSMOS doesn’t work out, then I’ll do the CTD Equinox program at Northwestern University in Chicago.

@conorsperry I regret not applying to any other programs… I was going to apply for EPGY at Stanford but it’s so expensive and the class range is geared more towards liberal arts. Northwestern is a great college too, but hey: you can’t beat summer in California! There’s nothing else like it. :]

I so desperately want to get in :\
Fingers crossed for all of us!!! Just wondering, how many of you all are sophomores, juniors, freshmen?

Current sophomore, c/o 2014 :]

2015 represent ^__^

haha we’re having a “clash of the classes” at my school this week so I’m definitely feeling the freshmen pride
