I read in one of the local newspapers that there is a very good chance that all summer classes are going to be online including the ones for admitted Freshmen in the summer B. The hope is for those Summer B students to still be able to come to campus. but obviously everything is very fluid. I wonder if orientation or Preview will be moved as well. We all have a lot on our plates including the University themselves. So many unknowns.
Based on recent announcements from the University, I would expect to see that Summer B and Preview will moved online as well. I would also expect every other university in the country to make similar decisions. The good news for UF is that they already had a robust and proven online delivery platform, where not every other university is as prepared.
The only concern I would have and this would only apply to any student who has been on the fence about the summer B acceptance is the extra added pressure of committing under such circumstances assuming they have other options. especially regular Fall admittances. Hopefully, all of this information will be provided prior to May 1st in order for any of these students to make the correct choice.
Summer B is still 3 months away and it is unknown how all of this will play out. Since it takes a lot of planning, especially for all these large schools to try to put together all these events, I would think that the easiest thing to do would be to go 100 percent online in order to minimize any issues. However, it would probably be wise to offer those who have been admitted to Summer B the option for Fall especially if the ability to move into the dorm is not feasible for another few months. Communication is the key here and UF should be very clear with their plans. All of this is very unfortunate for sure. But as of right now, this is all speculation.
When I was talking to the assistant directors of one of UF’s scholarships, they said Summer B is still a go at the moment. They seemed pretty confident that Summer B won’t be affected besides preview and stuff. Of course this can change and UF has not formally made a decision for Summer B. Summer A/C will be online though.
The latest, as of March 18th. It’s TBD:

Summer B is now going online and postponed by a week. So I am assuming all Freshmen admitted to UF Summer B will not move into a Dorm and start school at home? UF should allow these students to move their entrance to the Fall Semester.
@collegeisago yes that is the plan. Students offered summer B will have the opportunity to switch. Emails will go out soon (next day or so) with more information.
