Prompt: What is the primary purpose of education?
Most people in the world would agree that education take an essential part in ones life. In fact, Horace Mann proclaims: A human being is not attaining his full heights until he is educated. In other words, education is always a tool to create good human beings, to give people the equal chance to succeed and to help one live independently. This universal notion is exemplified by a number of prominent instances in literature as well as history.
To substantiate this idea, there is no other better epitome than the character Tospy in Uncle Toms Cabin by Marver Comics. It is common knowledge that Tospy is a black slave, who used to be stubborn and often steal things. She has once been given only knowledge by her aunt. However, this is abortive as her personality is still unchanged. It is only when Evangline teaches Tospy not only knowledge but also the value of a person that Tospy has a full perception about herself. Tospy then knows how to respect and believe in herself. As a result, she changes her character. She has been transferred into a well-behaving girl. Beyond any doubt, readers are bound to infer from this detail that education helps to create good personalities.
The purpose of education is also demonstrated in Thomas Edisons life. During his school days, Edison usually thought about such singular ideas that his teachers deemed that these thoughts were nonsense and ridiculous. For example, he believed that water and fire could be harmonious and neutralized to make steam but his teacher did not. He was after that expelled from school and indoctrinated by his mother at home. His mother taught him, gave him knowledge and motivated him to explore the unknown. He got his own experience and afterward invented marvelous inventions such as the electric bulbs. He also became one of the most successful creators. Without doubt, educations true purpose is to give one the equal chance to achieve succeed.
Remi the protagonist of one of the worlds masterpiece, Nobodys boy written by Hector Malot could also be taken as a great exemplification for the above statement. When Remi is eight years old, he is got rid of the house and later taken care by Vitalis, a kind traveling artist, who runs a small circus group. Vitalis has taught Remi how to read, write, how to earn a living and taught him correct behaviors. Remi perceives and learns everything Vitalis has taught him. After Vitalis is caught and dies, Remi is capable of living independently. He is certain to earn his living, manage the circus group and help the members of the circus to live. Without doubt, it is inevitable that education is to help one to live independently and manage his own life.
Through these historic and literary illustrations, the main purpose of education is analyzed undeniably and clearly. As a famous person once said, Education is a progressive discovery of our own limitation.
