Course Workload

Hi, I currently have to choose IB courses and I’m planning on choosing math, physics, and cs for HL because I want to major CS in the future. Would this combination be too much workload? I heard math and physics HL is much harder than SL and CS HL in my school has the lowest average score (3.75) out of all IB courses, so it kinda worries me. Any suggestions? Should I do physics SL instead?

Every HL will (or at least should) be harder than the corresponding SL. If you are doing IBDP, you need 3 HLs, and these 3 make the most sense.

That depends. I have friends that take HL Math and Physics, and they are VERY strong in those fields even prior to IB.
If Math is not your strong suit, I don’t suggest doing it. But by all means, practice can make perfect. Just be sure that you know what you’re headed into. Similarly, for HL Physics. Those two are one of the hardest courses in the IB.
However, you noted that you are majoring in CS. That would mean you need a heavy math load. It is up to you.

HL math at my school is considered the hardest course. Look at the statistics online for the amount of kids who pass and score well in HL math it isn’t very high. Since you are intending on majoring in CS though it would probably be expected you take HL CS and some schools may request HL math but doing all three seems like a lot.

Thanks everyone for replying, they are really helpful!

My Ds school only has SL Physics and it is very difficult and time consuming but an excellent course. Math Analysis HL is not that bad.

What about taking Math and CS HL, Physics SL, your strongest Humanities/social science subject for the other HL in order to get credit for it in college, then your 2 other Humanities/social science/art subjects SL?
Otherwise, if you’re a really strong math and science student, these 3 HLs make sense.

Yes, I have decided to take CS, math, economic HL, and Physics SL.
