Courselisting?

Can anyone tell me why on the fall 2007 course list, there are some classes that have open seats, but people on the waitlist? E.g.

Limit:160 Enrolled:136 Waitlist:46 Avail Seats:24

Does that mean that when I sign up for classes, I go straight to the waitlist? This is confusing.

Aren't they on the wait list to be enrolled (waiting to be enrolled)? So the first 24 students on that wait list WILL be enrolled, unless something comes up, in which case the next person on the wait list will be enrolled.

"Click here for current enrollment information and course restrictions."

What that means -- when there are open seats, but students on the waitlist -- is that the professor (or administration) has set a limit on the number of X students s/he will allow to register on Telebears. Juniors, Seniors, Freshmen/Sophomores, English majors, etc. Once that limit is reached, any future students who fit those categories, which are now full, will be funneled to the wait-list.

Thanks for the info! I should have clicked on that link, but I just came to the conclusion that the information would be vague.

What about this situation:

"Limit:20 Enrolled:14 Waitlist:4 Avail Seats:6"

with

"course restrictions

This course has no restrictions at the coursewide level."

Does that mean that the professor is hand picking who goes on the waitlist?

I also thought it was because students signed up for the lecture, but the discussion/lab segment was full, so even if other discussion sections are open, they are on the waitlist because the specific one they want is full.
