CSULB or UCI

I'm not from California, so I'm a non-resident. I'm currently a junior with a 3.3 as my UW GPA & my weighted GPA is 3.5(not UC scale). I'm also planning to get an UW GPA of 4.0 this semester.
I plan to get to get 25-28 on the ACT and 1600-1700 on the SAT.
I was in tennis, key club, FBLA, medical careers club, and link crew.
I am trying to become an officer for FBLA and medical careers club for senior year.
I'm also going to intern at the Children's Hospital or an elementary schools during senior year.
What are my chances of getting accepted, especially to UCI?

Can you afford the prices shown on the net price calculators?

Yes I can. I’ll still apply for scholarships, but I am willing to pay non-resident tuition.
Any chances?

UCI’s average acceptance GPA last year was a 4.1 so you definitely need to get that GPA up your junior year

Are your parents able to pay $50,000 every year? (Remember you can only take $5,500 in loans).

I think they will both be reaches for you unless you do a LOT better on the SAT/ACT.

Is even CSULB a reach for me because I’m not a resident?

Both of them are reaches with a 3.5 1600 especially if your OOS. Unless you have some hooks you will not get in.

Around what should I get as a OOS for my GPA and ACT?

UCI 4.0+ W and 1850 + to have a decent chance with no hooks. If you were a URM, first gen, and low income I’d say you’d have a good chance, but I’m gonna assume that your none of those things so with those stats you will not get in to UCI.

How about CSULB? Do I have a medium-high chance?

I just got rejected to CSULB with a 3.6 and a 1650; in state. CSU’s are numbers based and UC’s have a holistic review. If you write a good essay, have good EC’s and have some hooks then you have a chance at some of the lower UC’s but UCI is pushing it. But for CSU’s they’ll just review you based on your stats, so I’d say that CSULB is a reach considering I just got rejected with higher scores than you.

Both seem to get a bit more selective each year

For CSULB - I’d target a CSU Index of 3900 or higher as an OOS applicant.

As mentioned a couple times above, UCI is looking for a 4+GPA and 1850 SAT these days.

Good luck
