I took it as a 1st semester Freshman. Some other freshman are taking it this semester.

Right now I am a freshman in my second semester.

@copaman & mumof2boyz: can u guys tell in which semester do students need to take the MATLAB course. I heard its in either junior or senior year. Is it true?

And copaman,if possible, can u tell me exactly how detailed was the C++ programming course and upto which chapters did it cover? I mean, was ur C++ course just limited Looping, Arrays and Functions or it covered more. And also, did the programming assignments consist of simple programming concepts or did it cover the coding of sophisticated programs too?

Engineering 1 is Intro to Excel, C++, and Matlab.

So you take Matlab as Freshman. Possibly 1st semester, possibly 2nd.

C++ covered Looping, Arrays, Functions, and possibly just a little more.

The programming assignments were tough simply because you had to apply theory. For example, you learn how loops and arrays etc. work, and then you have to go and make a program with all of those in it and you’ve got to make sure it all meshes together.

The women who are trying to pledge will have to do silly stuff to prove their spot in the house.

@copaman: I love swimming and that might be the only sport i may play(i’m not a player though). Can u tell about the facilities of swimming pool @ lehigh?
Does Lehigh have a swimming pool of its own?? if yes how far/where is it from the DRAVO dorm? Are the general students allowed to swim in the pool 24*7. Or only athletes and swimmers are allowed?

Trinitian:

Yes, we have a pool of our own. It’s a decent way away from Dravo, in Taylor Gym (campus map lookup will help). It’s a pretty nice pool from what I’ve seen. I know it’s open to just regular students and not just athletes but I can imagine that when the varsity squads have practice you’d have to clear out. Because of the nature of my shoulder injury I have not been able to use the pool yet.

^^thats great!

hey copaman, here’s what i’ve been meaning to ask u.
I got $1000 work study per semester in my financial aid package.I need some idea about workstudy.
How much do students approximately make up through work study per semester?Like I have $1000 from work study, does that mean I’ll be able to earn only around 1000-2000$ or do I have a chance to earn greater? Also can we choose a job of higher pay when we arrive on campus?
Also the rule is 20hrs per week, so do we get to work complete 20 hrs per week or we work less than that?
Can u describe everything u know about workstudy? coz i plan to earn more through workstudy to cover my expenditures…

^^^^^ almost forgot: polishing which/what skill would help find a better workstudy?? like using Photoshop or AUTOCAD,photo editing and designing, fast typing…is there anything that could be done???

I am honestly not the best source for work-study questions as I did not receive it as a part of my package.

From what I’ve seen it seems like the kids don’t work so much as study. The students I’ve seen in Ulrich Student Center and Taylor Gym just sit there at the door, face planted in their books or in their laptop.

My guess is that the $1000 in Work Study you see in your financial package is possibly an estimate on how much you’ll end up making. I don’t know about pay rates etc.

You should be able to work the maximum 20 hours, possibly less depending on how many kids do work study.

I can’t imagine many work study programs would rely on a given set of skills (CAD, Photo editing, etc), so I honestly wouldn’t work on those unless you have a hobby in the given area.

There is a six lane pool and a four lane pool and they are open 11:30-2 and 8:30-10:30 PM on weekdays. It is right below the freshman dorms though Dravo is farthest from it. The swimming and diving team has it from about 2-8 each day. In addition to the varsity team, there is a club swim team and a club water polo team.

negotiator1225: can u fill this schedule, it would clarify.

11:30-2 am –> ??? (general students or club swim team & polo team)
2-8 (am/pm ??) –> swimming and diving team
8:30-10:10:30 pm –> ??? (general students or club swim team & polo team)

I am in the experimental course that will replace ENGR 001 next semester. The experiment course is ENGR 96. We just started the course so I am not positive what the entire semester will entail, but basically we are programming an Arduino board. I know there was mention of some matlab that we will do toward the end of the semester I believe. The class will take its shape throughout this semester, taking its finalized form next year.

Can u figure out whether C++ is too present in that course?? And is Introduction to Engineering Practice (ENGR 5) too getting replaced or only the ENGR 001 ???

I would not think ENGR5 is getting replaced. It’s important in that it shows the undecided engineering majors what all the different majors in engineering do.

I’ve talked to Steve Buell, one of the advisors of IBE, and he hinted to me that Engr5 has a strong possibility of not being on the syllabus next year.

Thats creating a confusion.Does that mean both ENGR1 and ENGR5 have a great chance of getting replaced next year???

Engr5 does not matter. It’s a joke of a 1 credit course.

Engr1 will be replaced.

^^but the course manual says " ENGR 5 Introduction to Engineering(3) "==> that means 3 credit hours course.Isnt it?
