Current Student taking questions :)

ohh you guys are so friendly and social down there. I'm on the quiet fifth floor :[

johnnytremain - my son is on the 3rd floor in a triple. Hmmm....I wonder if you're one of his roomies??? Don't worry...I know he's not the "a total straight edge, good boy". LOL Like parent2noles said....things haven't changed in 30 years. I just tell him to be careful, have fun (but not too much fun) and enjoy the next few years.

I'm such a "gray-brain"...my son is on the 4th floor. LOL

I see the questions have almost been answered but I will answer them anyways 

*"This is just a specific question that you might not be able to answer.
My priority number was 588. Do you think I can make it into Landis Hall and get a single dorm?
AND. How's the foodz?"
*

-As far as i know, getting a single in Landis is like finding the cure to cancer with a little less pressure (i guess).

-The food is ok but depends on your tastes. There is a food court in Oglesby Union with Pollo Tropical (decent), Hardees (overpriced), and some sushi place (terrible in my op).

"how hard is it for students to find internships, jobs, or get accepted into a work-study program?"

-There are plenty of jobs to be found (on and off campus). As far as work-study programs go, you can look around but as a freshman your options will be limited (as are mine). Talk to your professors and find out from them what you can do.

"Sweet. Thanks for taking the time for this.

I got into FSU in December, and it's one of my top choices. But I do have one concern... It seems like all there is to do in Tally is party, and I'm not a big party guy. I mean, I would love going to football games and an occasional party, but I would rather have other social options. It seems like Tally is just way behind in that area compared to other cities with schools on my top list (Minneapolis and Boulder, for instance). Could a non-partier (and non-drinker) have a good social life at FSU?

Thanks again!"**

-Wow you are like me :) Yes to your question. If you are studious, just go the library where you will find tons of other students just like you. Or just go with a group of friends to Landis Green and chill there, doing whatever you want. To be honest, the tally area is kind of old and you will find many (many) homeless people roaming around (saw one ON campus yesterday). There are plenty of social things to do on and off campus. I'm sure if you look around, there are fun things to do. If you think you will be on campus a lot, then just find some clubs to join or activities to do (Ultimate Frisbee maybe). There are plenty of activities to do on campus and off. Hope that alleviates your doubts.

"SATSCHOLAR - are you from Florida? did you have friends from HS you hang out with or did you make a new group of friends? I assume your a strong student how are you enjoying your classes ? are they large?"

Yes i am from FL. Yes i hang out with some of my high school friends and haven't really made a new group of friends yet but plan on doing so soon :) Classes are a breeze as long as you cut the procrastination that sticks with you from last semester of high school. The classes i am taking are fairly large with the number of students ranging from 100-300 and about 20 in my chem lab.

I got into smith by the way due to some problems with my transcript and a late decision coming in April (or May) i was given a low priority number. FSU was not my first choice of colleges but i decided this was the best economical option compared to GATech and UF and NYU.

Smith Hall is decent, i'm used to it now.

satscholar, i also have chem lab and live in smith....which floor are you on?

Wo wo wo :O

I'm a freshman now at fsu living in landis. I want to live in landis again next year, but this time in a single dorm so I can have my own room and some more privacy. Do you guys recommend any specific room numbers. I know the single dorms on the first floor are particularly small, what about the other floors??

i'm in landis (in a triple) right now, and the fifth floor single rooms are really nice.

Anyone ever heard of a sophomore grabbing a single efficiency in McCollum? How would you compare a single in Gilchrist with McCollum (I've never seen the inside)?
Currently I have a single in Gilchrist and am debating between either returning to this single, attempting to get a single w/ bath in Gilchrist, or trying for the single efficiency in McCollum.

Wow, all these landis people! I steal the rice krispies out of your vending machine, you know. They always run out so quickly in Gilchrist (I'm 2nd floor by the way!)

i'm afraid i can't answer your question about efficiencies in mccullum...sorry!

i'm on the fifth floor of landis, and am CONSTANTLY running down to your vending machines, since our food one doesn't accept fsucards. plus i feel like it's quicker than going all the way down to the basement on the boys side. that's so cool that we switch buildings just for vending machines! haha :]

Yau - if you have a low priority number you could have a good chance at getting the efficiency in McCollum. If you are not happy with the dorm they assign you, you can request a change or move off campus.

Well I put the McCollum efficiency as my first choice and then e-mailed housing who put down that I wanted a single room as my second room preference. I guess we'll see what happens! There should definitely be a thread devoted to assigned housing/ our priority number/ year living on campus/ the hall and room preferences we put down. It's difficult to know what to expect after freshman year in relation to housing!

That is too funny!!! The dollar bill thing is actually why I will resort to landis. Since you can't use your chip you guys don't eat all your rice krispies!

D2 is very, very pleased with her single in McCollum.
