National Merit does not want press releases for two weeks; maybe that is what the rep meant. But, the packets were mailed to High Schools and to Home School folks one week ago today (8/24), and a number of students have received notifications and cutoffs. The schools seem to be on their own timelines re: notification.

As far as I know, nothing in from Wisconsin. Best wishes to you and to your son, and please do let us know when you find anything out!!

Best wishes to all!

This site is incredibly helpful. Wish the Guidance counselors were more familiar with such resources.

Thanks so much. Because of this site, we became aware of full scholarships for NMFinalists, and our older son is now enrolled at Auburn. Son #2 is looking at Alabama (because Auburn doesn’t have his program.) What about you? Do you have sons/daughters who are NM Finalists?

ccrawford92 was 211 your score or the cutoff for Alabama?

I don’t have anyone yet, but am hoping for D, a current senior. My husband’s company gives big $, so will mean a lot if it comes through.

And, I agree, this site is great. I have learned so much from it, and am grateful to everyone who helps.

Ditto… The lists on this website were of immense help over the last year. My daughter, thru early action, has Auburn Honors college with a full-ride out of the way while we wait the next 8 months for offers from other colleges to compare. The NM program and Auburn scholarships has brought us some financial peace of mind while we evaluate other options.

Looked through and did not see anything for VA. My son got his packet with a score of 225. I am sure it is lower than that, but do not know how low.

Boatfoot, I do recommend Auburn–highly. It certainly isn’t for everyone, but my son absolutely loves it. We were not even sure exactly where it was before we became aware of the NM Finalist scholarships thanks to this site. He is in the Honors Program (which is automatically open to NM Finalists) and lives with three other guys who are NM finalists–two from Texas, one from Florida and one (my son) from Wisconsin. He got a job with the Athletic Department and, in fact, was at a Press Conference today with Head FB Coach Chisek today at Auburn. All because of this site!

Best wishes for your daughter, and for Mariepuff’s as well.

Cordially,

minoa frau:
Thanks for the suggestion. We e-mailed yesterday. Over the summer the college counselor usually gets back to us within a day, but seems to be away now. Perhaps next week.

Welcome to CC, Rick! For most of us, we ARE each others’ guidance counselors.

I don’t know what I’d do without the help of the people on this website. I used CC a lot when my 1st child was finishing high school and am now using it for my current senior. It’s amazing to me how much some of you know (e.g. mariepuff). While I’m confident my S will make NMSF with his score, I find myself regularly checking this thread because I’m anxious about everyone else!!

That’s probably right. We’re homeschoolers and haven’t gotten anything yet. I would assume we would already have a packet if it was going to come. It’s tough missing it by one lousy point and knowing that if we lived in almost any other state in the nation my son would be a semi-finalist. :(

^^^
If its any consolation CAMomof4, you have lots of company! My son is also a 217er. Those kids in the NE states have it even rougher, though.

Just wondering whether it is fairly unusual for there to be a 3 point jump (up or down) within a state from one year to the next? Child had 220 and last year our state’s cut-off was 218 so a 3 point jump would knock her out. Still waiting to see more New York scores come up on these boards while we await the start of school in 13 days.
Yes, and it’s wonderful to have the “CC” network.

Still hoping to hear what the cut-off is for Michigan. Appreciate any help!

@fridakahlo 3-point jumps are quite rare and would more likely occur in states with lower cutoffs. i saw a cutoff a few years ago change from 204 to 208 or 208 to 204.

I have a feeling that’s where she will end up. She liked the campus and the town and is looking forward to a “private room” in a suite, something that most colleges cannot guarantee even if they are available.

Though there other a few others she is applying, the five most likely are:

Davidson, Rice, Washington & Lee (privates)
Auburn Honors, Clemson Honors

The problem is the 1st three don’t allow but a couple of college credits for incoming freshman. She has been dual enrolled taking college classes at a 4 year Georgia College since the 11th grade and will graduate with 44 college credits. Basically she would be throwing at least a years worth of credits away to attend one of those schools and as much as three semesters. (Same goes for Vanderbilt, Emory, Duke, and all the Ivies.)

At Auburn she could double major and get a masters in 4 years virtually 100% funded since they stack scholarship monies that come from other sources. I told her that after graduating debt free she can always do more graduate or PHd work at some ‘prestigous’ university.

Mariepuff, my D says nobody was called down to the office today. Same with you? This is becoming annoying. I wonder how long we’re going to have to wait.
