cut-off scores/semi-finalist announcements

If you dont get NMS, when do you get the Commended Certificate?

Son is semi-finalist in Idaho with 211. Don’t know what cut-off is.

I saw from my counselor today - the cut off is 218 exactly in the state of Washington. One up from last year. Go 2011! We’re smarter than 2010 :)

Best of luck to those still waiting!

Commended (national cutoff) = 201

No scores reported yet from:
AZ
AR
CO
DE
DC
ME
NE
NH
NM
ND
PA
RI
SC
SD
WV
WI
WY

I also got an email from NMSC asking me to login to their web site to sign consent form for D.
D’s public school has more than 20 this year(374 senior), a big increase!

So does that mean if you got the cutoff score (for example, 214 in AK), then do you get semifinalist?

^Yep. That’s what it means.

Woot! If Ca cut off really is 218, then I barely made it! I got a 219. Hopefully this isn’t a cruel trick life’s playing on me and the cut off doesn’t jump up to 220. Gah, that would be the worst

^Did anyone in your school get the packet yet?

Nope. I talked to my counselor a couple of days yet, and she said they haven’t received any packets yet. But my school has kids who got like 235 and scores like that, so we’re bound to get one. I just hope I’m one of them

I missed the cutoff by 1 pt. Ga 214

I left my packet at school. Can anyone tell me the essay prompt to think about?

If the WA cutoff is really 218, then yay me! 220 haven’t gotten anything from the GCthough.

Just wanted to confirm the 210 cutoff in LA. I’m a NMSF with a 210, none of my friends with any lower scores made it. I don’t know anyone with a 209, but I know some 206-ish people. I’d be willing to believe 210 is it. Strange though, a three point jump from last year. I can say, at my LA school, my class is absolutely brilliant (my friend made a 239, unheard of here.) compared to last year’s class (no one even made commended scholar.)

^That’s so interesting how that happens, aleader.

My son’s entire class (grade level) is also known around here for being “brilliant,” as a whole. From the time he was in third grade, school teachers have been mentioning that this class is so much smarter, more mature, and more advanced than any other class they can remember. It’s weird.

(I, by the way, have younger and older children in the same schools, so it’s not just a “mom-thing” that makes me say so! )

Any definite news for NJ? Is 221 real or hypothetical?

no info for AZ? i feel like there arent any arizona peeps on CC… :frowning:
anyways i got it with a 229… not that that really helps determine the cut off

and my counselor sent me an email telling me to stop by and pick up the packets. but she sent that email friday after school right before the 3 day labor day weekend. so i have no idea whats even in the application.

With a 229, you would likely be a semi in any state. Take a look at the range of scores for various states reported on the previous page of this thread. Also, AZ was 210 last year (post #274 on the following thread) and cutoffs rarely change by more than a couple of points from one year to the next:

Congrats!

Ugh, 218 in California…I’m seriously super nervous here…I haven’t heard of anyone below 219 who got semifinalist in Cali so yeah. Well, I guess I’ll find out if I got it on Tuesday…
