DS and 3 of his fraternity brothers just signed a lease at The Lofts. The complex and apartments are gorgeous! I told my son that hiis dad and I are selling our house and moving into The Lofts too. His response was, “why would you even joke about that!” :)

Wow, all those amenities starting at $547 per person…not a bad deal at all. My son at another university will be living in an apartment on the edge of campus and is paying that amount. However, 4 people are sharing 2 bedrooms, 1 bath in a tiny apartment…from his description I think it is not much bigger than Alabama’s suites. It is nice that the students at UA have such wonderful options in Tuscaloosa at a price much lower than the super suites. I can see why most of my son’s friends are moving off campus.

We had the opportunity to look at some of these properties recently. I can tell you they are absolutely gorgeous!

513, The Lofts, and The Gates at Cedar Crest are all coming along nicely. At 1,400 square feet per 2br/2ba unit, The Gates give new meaning to “Living Large”.:)

* I can see why most of my son’s friends are moving off campus.*

Exactly. that’s why parents shouldn’t get too upset that their kids aren’t guaranteed on campus housing for four years. Most kids WANT to move off campus after the first year or two.

The Lofts do look like they’ll be amazing with the (eventual) restaurants, etc, surrounding it. Plus, with Midtown Village just a stone’s throw from it, the students will have lots of offcampus dining choices.

Will all of these new complexes have shuttles to the campus?

It is my understanding that The Lofts will have a shuttle, but I could be wrong. 513 and The Gates will not have a shuttle right now, but that could change. Although all are close to campus. It would be possible to bike to The Gates at Cedar Crest.

I know the Gates at Cedar Crest includes internet (wifi), a washer and dryer, all kitchen appliances (glasstop stove), granite countertops, etc… Water and sewage is a flat $35 per month. Electricity, cable, and furniture are not included. Be careful even with complexes that include utilities. Although some include utilities, we average $30 to $40 overage for utilities each month for our unit (split occupants) at East Edge. Cedar Crest has taken energy consumption and noise into consideration during construction and added features to help keep down energy costs and noise. They give new meaning to “Living Large”. I liked that the owner and management company are local.

Thanks for the info! Trying to compare to my DD’s apartment costs. Just preparation for when my DS doesn’t want to take over his sister’s apartment this time next year! That would be way too easy on us and I will be shocked if it happens!
