You get the letter of award/documents after you agree on a start/end date with your Ph.D student.

@jchartier, woah, 10 students from your school is impressive! And I am in Munich, hence the financial concerns… hopefully it won’t be too much more?

Thank you very much FrogIce. I have agreed on the dates and still yet to receive the documents. Do you have any idea how long will it take to receive the documents?

Is anyone else still waiting to hear? I still have not heard back from DAAD RISE! I sent them an email a while ago asking about the delay but they did not respond… It looks like they are still adding people to the facebook page though. It is at 278 right now. I think they said they had about 310 positions and since I still haven’t heard back I am feeling optimistic.

Hey, I’m applying to Rise 2014. Can you tell me what your GPA was, and also what school you attended…did you have prior research experience

Hey Alan88, I am also applying to RISE 2014. I attend Columbia. What school do you attend?

I have also applied to the 2014 RISE program. Have you guys been contacted by any of the PhD students whose research projects you applied to?

I applied to two projects and haven’t heard anything yet. I’m going to wait another few weeks before I start to get anxious about it.

I received emails from two of the three projects that I applied for. One said I was his number one choice, the other said I was within his top 3. From what I understand, we should start hearing back from DAAD between the beginning and middle of March. For some reason, they seem to spread their announcements. I would expect them to hopefully start going out on Monday, March 3rd.

I haven’t heard anything from any of the projects I applied to. Hope to hear from them sometimes next week.

I contacted all three of them in the preliminary stages of the application process to inquire about their research and get my name out there. We had some back and forth discussion about what they do and what an intern would possibly be doing over the summer. I don’t know if this had anything to do with them contacting me back.

I applied to three projects and heard back from one of them. I think they would start sending out emails on the 3rd of March. Good luck everyone!

Thinking about reaching out to them to ask. Not sure if it hurts the decision.

I think at this point they’ve already submitted their recommendations to DAAD, so I don’t see how asking could hurt you at all.

Which projects have you all applied to?

The two that I heard back from were EE positions related to medical technology in Jülich and Lübeck.

Oh I heard back from one in Lübeck as well. It was called: Computer simulation of drug eluting from coated medical implants.

I applied to a project called GenePainter and two others which require Rails programming experience. My GPA is low (3.64), but I have relevant experience so … Not sure what to expect.

A lot of people have applied to the GenePainter project.

The one in Lübeck was for research dealing with pulse oximeter calibration. I’m in my junior year, have a 4.0 GPA , and I have a lot of background in MATLAB and C, which the PhD candidate said was very beneficial for his research. I am really excited about what he is doing and I tried to convey a lot of that enthusiasm in the cover letter and email.

Even after all of the excitement of getting back the emails, you never really know what is going to happen with the organization.
