Dartmouth College RD Class Of 2017!

NO?
I heard UAE people still have decent chances than us indians. :3
but thats what I HEARD. so.
AND STAAAAAPHH DUDE!
you got waitlisted at Caltech/MIT. so obviously you app wasnt worth a rejection ;)

@Rew
Yea, First choice now that MIT has rejected me and the extreme unlikelihood of me getting into the VIPER program at UPenn is Princeton. But if I am rejected from there too Dartmouth is right up there! :slight_smile: Especially with such a great group of people.

@Himanshu
It really is a case of where I get accepted :stuck_out_tongue: I am hoping it is a case of some of the unis rejecting me due to where else I have applied… but I doubt it xP We will see though hey :stuck_out_tongue:

I am however definitely going to the States for uni, and will probably be close to my sister as well which will be awesome :)

@raith I’m definitely going to the states too, have a couple of safeties in the bag.

@rew Chances here are equally bad because I’m competing with Europeans/Americans/Arabs/Asians in the UAE and middle east. Moreover, 100 people applied to UPenn from this tiny country alone :P

Dartmouth is now my last choice bc Greek life. :</p>

@alexissss I’ve looked into it a lot over the past few days–so much so that if I were to only be accepted to Dartmouth and my state school (a notorious party school), I would pick my state school. Not that I can speak from experience, but I feel like it would be even worse for me since I’m a guy who’s not into that.

Hi - I work at Dartmouth - my son is waiting with everyone else to hear in a couple of weeks. I’ve employed several students over the years I’ve worked at Dartmouth, only one was in a frat. All my students have close friends and busy social lives even though they haven’t joined frats or sororities (I asked my students because of the same concerns you have because of my son). I honestly think it’s not an issue. You can join a frat or sorority if you want to but if you don’t, there seem to be tons of social opportunities available.

@basketballer: My top choice is Northwestern! Haha!! Just because that is more realistic for me!! Haha!!
but not taking probability into account - I’d say Princeton, Dartmouth and Northwestern are my top top choices. If by a GREAT MIRACLE I am accepted to two of them or all three(HAHA) , then the choice would boil down to FinAid and some research into future prospects!! :)

Edit:
Yeah, I agree with BTMell. If you have any doubts regarding greek like - there are a lot of active D parents on this forum, you can always ask them!!

@theowl- i am assuming your state school was ASU?

oh shutup you, Rishav17! :stuck_out_tongue:
first off, D and Pton both are need-blinds.
and then, you are a good candidate at all of those. so. :|

@owl
Yea, agreed. I prefer Cornell over D… :o

@rew2402 Ole Miss actually. It varies each year, but it’s been as high as #5 on the Princeton Review list (I’m not sure what merit that has, however). Of course everything seems different based on perspective.

I’m thinking that I just got a little freaked out after reading certain articles pertaining to the Greek system at Dartmouth, and I overstated my worry. I don’t think I would ever choose Ole Miss over another school that offered me admission. It’s like my entire high school class just matriculates to Ole Miss–nothing changes.

I’ve never really understood the ranking lists. What makes one school better than the other? Some schools are just REALLY good at one thing (see, CMU) and then others are just a jack of all trades.

I agree alexissss. I prefer Cornell over Dartmouth and Cornell isn’t even my top choice. (but then again, I havent visited either school, so what do I know?)

I have a question of my own: Its Ivy decision day. Which school’s decision are you going to check first? ;)

thats a tough question…

I’m going in order of the school I’m least excited about to school I’m most excited about (although I am excited about all of them). So Dartmouth will be checked 4th out of 6.

I think I’ll go Dartmouth, UPenn, Columbia, Brown, Yale, Princeton and Harvard. Order is from least favorite to favorite.

@rew - I am nothing more than okayish. And when BRILLIANT people seem to be rejected for fun by these universities, I can’t be any more optimistic.

@thechor346 - Good question. One that I’ve been pondering over for quite a while. Not yet decided, but these are few orders I’m considering -

 • Alphabetically (from Cornell to UPenn; no B, H, Y for me)
 • Highly unrealistic to less unrealistic (Pton to Cornell)
 • In ascending order of emails they sent me. :p

I’ll probably check Brown first, then Yale, then Dartmouth. Not sure why, but that’s what I’m feeling.

For the most part, I’ll probably just use the order in which the schools send me decision emails.

But Cornell is definitely going to be last; accessing their application status check is incredibly irritating and I can’t imagine that accessing my decision will be any simpler.

i’m thinking for my order to do: harvard yale princeton columbia dartmouth brown upenn cornell - first 4 are the ones i’m least hopeful about and then just kind of random

i wont check on the ivy day. i’ll check it on April 1 (when my LAC’s decision comes out), so, ill just check 'em all-together, and starting from my dream schools. i just don’t want to get all the shock and distress in a series of waves of depression. meh.

and since, rejections are bound to happen, i’ll just get some chocolates and watch Game of Thrones Season 3 episode 1 later then, to console self.
ah, planned everything! :)

I honestly didn’t ever think about the order until I saw another post about it. At first I just figured I’d go in the order they came… I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. I don’t think I’d check my favorite last, though - it’d suck if it were a rejection!
