@Erikj28 I’ve been interning at the World Bank Group since the summer started so that’s where I spend most of my free time.
@GiddyHiddy Logitech has a regional headquarters in my home town, so I did some internet snooping, found the emails of some of the people who worked there, and I just flat out asked. In my case I got 4 no’s and then the fifth guy i emailed agreed to sit down with me. Logitech had a college internship program but they had never entertained the thought of having a high schooler in the office. Once i sat down with the 5th employee, he was really impressed with my motivation and knowledge base and offered me a position to work during this past summer for 200 hours and then an hour after school every day. It’s a sweet gig!
@GiddyHiddy That is right about where my family falls as well.
@Erikj28 Welp, that won’t help me lol. The closest big city I live by is Milwaukee, and I don’t think there is anything over there with my interests.
@GiddyHiddy You’d be surprised! If you check out the members for your towns Chamber of Commerce, you’ll find a bunch of companies who would entertain having free work!
@Erikj28 Huh, I will go check that out ASAP. If I get deffered, it might help my chances regular round to show that I am dedicated to my interests.
I’m going to Kenya for a month on Friday so their decision will either set the tone of my vacation or be forgotten while I’m there.
Man, I really feel as if my application is nothing compared to everyone else. I did stuff, true, but only at the local or state level really.
@GiddyHiddy Essays, Recs, and interviews are things none of us can compare to one another because they’re subjective, so don’t count yourself out if you feel like your EC’s don’t stack up. None of us are shoo-ins!
I didn’t have an internship, but I’ve held a pretty big national leadership position within the Unitarian Universalist association.
Family income is currently under $100K as mother is frictionally unemployed.
@GiddyHiddy Same on those IAs, smh
I’m on a gap year so I’m working full time (9-7) at a fintech startup which specialises in buying different softwares from small companies across the globe who are looking to expand their customer base. The company I work at then sells it for them. It’s really cool, I get to travel to different countries and research all about the markets in those countries (what sells and what doesn’t, why something is popular and why it isn’t, what product is good for different countries and different banks with various goals).
Learning a lot and I’m glad I took the year out
Lol, worst part is my EC’s are still the best part of my app probably, -essays.
Hey quick question in case anyone knows:
When I got accepted to UGA, I logged in through the portal and there was a little hyperlinked message that said “An update has been made to your application status.” When you followed the link, it brought you to the letter.
However, when my friend got into Pomona this weekend, she logged into the portal and the acceptance letter was immediately shown.
Does anybody know which one it’s going to be with Dartmouth? I don’t know why this is the thing that’s getting to me.
@dartagnaneb Well, I already got my acceptance to UW Madison a month ago. They sent me an email, telling me my admissions decision was ready, so I logged onto the account and lo and behold, they accepted me…to the wrong school. But I can get that switched if I go their.
@dartagnaneb the decision letter does not appear immediately when you log in. When you log into the application management system, a hyperlink will appear towards the top stating that an update has been made to your application. You click on that to get your decision letter.
@dartagnaneb I was also thinking about applying to Pomona ED II, if worst comes to worst. What made your friend apply their, over another school?
@dartagnaneb I applied for the Dartmouth Bound Program (rejected cus i’m definitely not a URM) so it was the same application management system, and you log into your account and then click on a button that isn’t on our apps yet that says “View Update”. Then it will pop up
I’m from a lower class family and am going to boarding school on merit scholarship. I’ve never interned but I’ve worked a couple summer jobs to help with bills.
@Erikj28 Never knew that was an opportunity, sucks living in a rural nowhere place sometimes. At least we got Lake Michigan whenever!
