So after yet another heartbreak from UCLA, I'm left with UC Davis and UCSD to choose from. I arrogantly never bothered to seriously consider either school, so now i'm left with a confusing decision to make!

I'm an Econ major and I'm pretty sure UCSD is ranked higher than Davis. However, I'm planning on double majoring in Philosophy and I don't know how that ranks at either school. Overall thought, I've heard SD's isn't so great in the Humanities department.

So mostly I'm considering the on and off campus environments, professors, student body (been hearing some scary things about those ucsd-ers), transfer dorms... and most of all the FOOD. jk but food is pretty important. How likely is it that I can find internship opportunities or just things to do on a Saturday night in the area? can't think of any other criteria right now but please reply! I'm going to Davis' transfer day on Friday but I can't make it to SD's on saturday.

The transfer dorms at Davis are pretty icky (Castilian Hall), but you can always live off-campus. As for economics, I think UCSD is supposed to be almost unmatched in that department. As for the girls (I’m assuming you’re a guy…no idea why. Then again you did use the term ‘heartbreak’…), they are actually quite attractive at both schools. UCD is obviously going to have girls with higher standards (they all bike and look very fit), but you can’t go wrong with San Diego.

Before I got admitted to Berkeley I was between SD and Davis. I was gonna go with Davis because it’s such a place dedicated to being a good school. It’s all Davis has and you can kinda get that the school is by far the most important thing going on around there. That seems to help every aspect of the school. Davis used to be ranked ahead of SD years ago and I think it could make a comeback. SD is a good spot too though.

Either way you will be happy. Don’t over analyze things.

BTW there are some ugly a$$ people at UCSD. Watch out bud.

Two words: triton eye (look it up)

haha well i’m a girl! and my boyfriend’s going to UCLA so that’s another factor i’m kind of considering too (proximity to LA). Is SD really that ugly though?! Davis’ campus isn’t really what I had in mind but it’s very… nature-y. I’ve also met people who went to davis and to sd and hated being there… meh idk what else to consider.

I think UCSD has a really cool campus. It was my second choice behind UCLA, and I would have gladly gone if UCLA had passed on me.

Beautiful weather, contemporary campus, new transfer dorms, the people there really aren’t that bad. :)

omg this whole thing about triton’s eye is hilarious!! i can’t wait to see it myself HAHA i love people watching :D

The Triton Eye is a disease caused by being around ugly girls at UCSD too long and your standards for what is attractive is lowered extremely.
9 out of 10 girls in San Diego are hot. But that 10th girl. . .goes to UCSD.

LOL. that’s funny/mean.

^ LOL i saw that while googling up what it was! it can’t be thaaaaaaaaaat bad!! the only people that I know who goes there are attractive LOL

I was just messing around… A lot of people (both males and girls) aren’t attractive and many of them are (just like any other school). Most of the attractive people (usually girls) are found in the sororities but some do hibernate in the transfer dorms. I do not attend but have a few friends from high school who tell me this (I am attending Fall 2010 though).

Either way, you’ll find people who are great inside and out at either school.

As far as philosophy goes for each school, check out this:
[The Philosophical Gourmet Report 2009 :: Overall Rankings](http://www.philosophicalgourmet.com/overall.asp)
It’s for their grad school dept’s, but I imagine it’s pretty indicative of where each is ranked overall when it comes to the strength of their phil dept.

are those philosophy rankings legit? if so, whoaa at NYU being #1, i didn’t know they had a strong philosophy department. that kills me though, cause that’s been my dream school since 10th grade.

well that site says sd ranks higer in philosophy as well, but i think i’m biased towards davis already. i’m thinking nicer campus/people.

nothingatall, i’m an econ major as well and went with ucsd, it’s the better school. as for the girls, both schools don’t have much. i live in the bay area and a close friend of mine lives in davis, i visit him roughly once a month (there really isn’t **** to do around here) and could probably count all of the hot girls i’ve seen there on both hands in the past 2 years. ucsd probably isn’t much better in terms of women (i’ve heard it’s actually worse lol) but people are quick to forget SDSU is only a 20 minute drive, female problem solved.

nothingatall
The Philosophical Gourmet is pretty legit. Check out how their rankings are qualified, and keep in mind that different schools also specialize in different areas of philosophy. Maybe school A is ranked higher, but specializes heavily in Analytic Philosophy, while you want to center on Continental Philosophy. Makes school B, the one ranked a few spots lower, a much wiser option. UCSD has a great phil dept, especially due to its connection to its cognitive science dept. But UCD is also a wonderful option for philosophy, I applied there too! But I decided on UCI because of I really like its faculty.

yeahh jus go 2 davis:D
