The website is kind of worded weirdly,is the deadline to apply for direct entry August 21st or November 1st?My sat and gpa meet the criteria but I won’t have my recommendation letters done until the middle of September probably.
As long as you have the GPA and SAT scores, you will be admitted directly into Kelley. The website is confusing because those dates are for incoming freshman this year. If you just finished your junior year in high school, then you need to have the GPA and test score by August 21, 2017 (in other words, around the first day you arrive on campus at IU).
November 1 is the deadline for full scholarship consideration, but it has nothing to do with direct admission. Still, make sure to apply by November 1. Also, you don’t need letters of recommendation to get into IU or Kelley. You only need them if you are invited to fill out the selective scholarship application. You will be notified about that after you are accepted.
@iubaccounting Thank you for all of your help!I really appreciate it.
No problem. Let me know if you have any other questions
Great to see future hoosiers. I was a direct admit last year and I’ll be going into my sophomore year. You’ll love Indiana. One thing I have heard though is that the direct admit program may not be available anymore. This could be just a rumor, but I heard that the past year was the last year for direct admits and because standard admit students were doing better than direct admit’s, I think from now on everyone may have to go through the standard admission process. Don’t quote me on this, but you’ll be fine either way.
@and0ne101 They literally say this every year. I’ll believe it when I see it. Getting rid of direct admission would drastically decrease Kelley’s ability to get top students.
Also, the whole thing about standard admits doing better is kind of dumb. It’s not that surprising that the standard admits who actually get into Kelley have better GPAs than all direct admits because you need to get good grades to get in. If you include standard admit hopefuls who don’t get in, I’m sure direct admits look a lot better.
Any idea if the gpa and ACT/SAT requirements for direct admit will be changing for incoming freshmen 2017?
@beezee45 I don’t know, but they will likely either stay the same or increase slightly
@iubaccounting ,
Where did you hear they may increase slightly? Is this rumor, conjecture, or fact. Thanks for further clarification
My advisor claimed that each direct admit class’s stats are getting better than the previous class. More people are meeting the requirements, so eventually the requirements will have to increase in order to prevent an overload of students if that trend continues. I’m just guessing based on that, I have no hard evidence or anything
ok, thanks for explaining. I think the overall stats are going up, but I will be surprised if they raise the requirements. I think it could backfire. Many high stat kids use Kekhey Direct as a backup. If they only take higher stats, they may not get a good yield…Just my feeling
Does anyone have any idea when Kelley will announce the criteria for gpa and ACT/SAT scores for direct admits for the fall of 2017?
There is one scholarship at IU that can accelerate your IU application timeline. It is very very selective. https://wellsscholars.indiana.edu
If you are in-state for Indiana you get nominated by your school. You can’t apply for it. IU calls these nominees and invites them to apply for Wells. I think there are also some feeder schools in other states that nominate directly.
But If you are OOS (and not at one of those identified nominating schools) then you apply to IU while concurrently filling out the Wells app. Admissions will review your info and may recommend you to the Wells committee for consideration, but only if you have all your materials in super early so that have time to review.
The deadlines are described at the link, but in order to get your recs and essays together you would want to be getting your materials submitted to IU Admissions in mid-late September I believe. Then Admissions considers you in time to add you to the pool of semi-finalists announced in early October.
Since it is hard to win this OOS, and since most Indiana residents are nominated by their high school it is probably fair for IU to have such an early deadline. But those unaware could easily miss it….
I don’t want to mislead anyone as it was 3 years ago my child did this (as an OOS) and details may have changed. But the advice is that if you want to try for Wells Scholar (again, VERY selective) your deadline is MUCH earlier than it may look. The good news it ail probably be your first college acceptance as legit candidates for Wells will almost surely be admitted to IU. It’s nice to have one under your belt by late Sep…
Most colleges have a full-tuition scholarship and program for the top applicants. This is Indiana’s version, equivalent to say the AB Duke Scholar at Duke University, It comes with a variety of cool opportunities and benefits. Read more at the link.
Regarding status and future for direct admit program, I doubt it would be discontinued, simply because that would put the OOS applicant pool at risk for the school-too many OOS applicants would pass on Kelley without assurance of direct admit. After our first Kelley admissions visit junior year, all in our family were in agreement, most of all my student, that the only way to Kelley was direct admit (and we agreed on this for any OOS school, and our flagship for that matter). No way no how would we have risked going to IU as OOS and taking the standard admit route/risk, no matter how much our student loved the school. Too $$$$.Fast forward to Direct Admit Day in Feb. '16, and our student saw soooooo many fellow OOS students from our community and neighboring suburbs. Kelley admissions does a fantastic job, and at worst, leaves lots of very well-qualified applicants with really tough choices to make. Nice problem to have!
So when should when should seniors this year apply for direct admit. I got a 1340 on the new SAT. I’m not sure if that’s high enough so I’m taking to October ACT for a 30C (at least). Is it ok if I submit my app around October for direct admit (before before November 1st for scholarship consideration)? Or can j submit my app w/o test scores & test send the test scores later?
@ZBlue17 This says that the SAT requirements will be released by the end of August.

I would just go ahead and submit the application now because you can always send in new test scores later, but it really doesn’t matter a whole lot as long as you get it in by November 1
