Unfortunately one of my teachers writing a rec letter didn't tell me that the Common App was not working for him and he would need to send his letter by mail. I have already submitted my actual application.
He also told me this today.
Is the deadline a postmark deadline for paper applications or a received by deadline?

Are you referring to ED I? If so, the deadline was extended to Nov. 21st due to the recent storms in New England. Otherwise, just check the admissions web site which gives all the deadlines and info. Good luck.

Alexandravan5, I don’t think so. I would think it would be too complicated for Smith to sort out who’s been affected by the hurricane and who’s not, so I’m guessing they extended the deadline for everyone. If you’re especially worried, just make a quick call to the admission office and you’ll get your answer. In any case, get your teacher’s recommendation in right away. Good luck!

I agree with CB. I had to ask for an extension on something a while back and they were very accommodating. Bet they would be now, too. I know that is the wording on the site but I think they would work with you.

Colleges tend to be forgiving about receiving stuff like letters of rec. They know it can be out of your hands. I wouldn’t freak out; I doubt they’ll refuse to read your letter if it comes in a little late, especially for ED I.
