I clicked the link to sign up but had visions of being tweeted all day and night by all kinds of people and organizations. It probably does not work that way but I will wait for my daughter to get home and figure it out. Im even willing to risk the eye rolling and general irritablity that I always must endure due to my lack of technical skills.

rodney - I would never be that cruel to people. My intention is to just receive tweets, lol. Hopefully I did it right, we will see.

was just wondering if there is a specific date for the release of the DHS winners and can you call the admission’s office to find out.

I can’t attend either of the honor’s weekends and would love to visit Tulane during be Feb. break which is the week of Feb 21st (if I were lucky enough to receive this scholarship)

WGPA 4.27 - smallish highly competitive public school (doesn’t rank)
SAT 2260
Sat II’s - 740, 750
a lot of community service all focused on special needs children (inc. starting a social program)
captain VARS soccer team
pres. Latin Club, 3 National Latin exam awards, school Latin award
Dartmouth Book Club award

my project was thoughtful and reflected my passion for helping children with special needs, but did not take a lot of time to prepare and had nothing to d with Tulane or New Orleans

There is no specific date that they announce. It has been in the later part of Feb but on a recent Tulane chat the admission reps said several times “late Feb, early March.” I doubt you will know by the 21st though.

I applied regular admissions on 11/26 but i still havent received acceptance. i applied for the deans. does that delay my admissions? however it seems like all of you got acceptance and presidential scholarship as well and still applied for deans. can anyone enlighten me? thanks!

applied early action and was accepted back in nov. with pres. scholarship and honors program

many who recieve this scholarship usually also apply for DHS which had a deadline i believe of dec 15th.

hellokitty - It does not delay your admission, but since you applied RD they somehow have just not gotten to you yet. I think most people that applied for the DHS probably did apply EA or SCEA, or even if they applied RD they applied much earlier and so heard back more quickly.

If you truly have stats that qualify for being in the running for the DHS, I wouldn’t worry. You should get an acceptance letter soon.

Are the DHS decisions impacted by National Merit Finalist results?

Not directly, no. Certainly there is a correlation between having the stats to be named a finalist and getting the DHS, but only in general. The NMF is based primarily on PSAT scores while the DHS is going to look at SAT or ACT, along with numerous other factors.

IMO, someone that did not make NMF because they didn’t do quite well enough on the PSAT but then nailed the SAT or the ACT will not be at a disadvantage to the person that did well on both.

My son is a NM Finalist. Oddly, that designation is not likely to impact his college choice. The schools that offer full NM scholarships were not a good fit for him in other regards…unfortunately. The designation may help in regards to private/community scholarship options.
I’ll have to learn how to tweet to get the DHS shipping info. :)

Tulane’s NMF award of $2,000 is independent of winning the DHS, which I am sure you knew. In other words, my D gets both the DHS and $2,000. Beyond that I don’t think there are any scholarships that can be added to the DHS, except for Louisiana residents that win the Hainkel.

FC is correct. My s also has the DHS and NMS.

I know I said just yesterday that I was going to be patient but I think I lied. Was reviewing old posts and noticed the some DHS notification dates of past years. Feb 19 or 3 years ago and Feb 24 last year. Has there been any official date for this year? All I know is what they said on the Tulane chat late Feb early March. I hate to call to ask especially after my last call.

Don’t call, because there is no “official” date. “Around President’s Day” is about as specific as it gets. I believe this is because the Deans of the various schools do review the projects, I think after they have been narrowed down to a group of finalists. No idea how many that is out of the 1000-1500 that get submitted. Anyway, my thinking is because of that, and then they have to get together and decide on the final 75, it takes some time and schedules are hard to mesh, it can’t be nailed down to a precise day. So they will only tell you the same thing, that it will be in a few weeks. Could be 1, 2 or 3. Shouldn’t be more than that.

Sorry, but you will just have to go back to the deep breathing exercises. In… Out…In…Out. Just keep repeating.

Admission counselor told me today end of month

And there we have it. Thanks 33dmjjm.

I wont call. I wouldnt anyway because I dont want to make a pest out of myself or seem like one of those “hover” parents. On CC I can remain anonymous while I make myself ridicilous!

This Friday.

when we applied for the deans, didnt the application say that we would find out before feb 20th? i hope this is true!

hellokitty - I am not sure what the application said, but the reality is that it will be around that date. Might be a few days later.
