I know this topic might not be appropriate here but I dont know from where else to get knowledgeable advice.
I am a second year student looking to transfer to a better university. I received a B+ GPA in my first year and a B+ GPA in my second year. I have good grades (A, A-,A-,B+)but I got a D also this semester in a course which important for my major. I am worried that because of the D I will not get accepted and that is the reason for which I want to give an excuse or at least an explanation. The truth is that I took 5 courses this semester and I just couldn't handle the 5th one . It was also part 2 of a subject for which part 1 I took at a different college where we didnt study the subject in that much depth. It is one the of most important courses of my degree. I know I can do a good job with it , once I retake it. I just made a bad decision concentrating on the other 4 courses when actually this one was the most important one. What should I do? I need to send the transcript soon and I could attach a note or should I leave it at that and just send the final transcript?....Any ideas?

Since you are thinking of making a transfer, hence have a record etc., contact the school and talk to them about the situation. While it seems like all answers are hear, often a more direct approach will give you the correct answer. If that does not work, then come here for alternatives based on what you have learned. May be a much more effective strategy

Elisa - IMHO an explanatory note is warranted. If the course with the bad grade is critical to your major I think your next school would be favorably impressed with "Sorry, my bad. If you accept me for transfer I will of course retake the course at XXX university." Good luck to you.

IMHO, I would not dwell on your course "overload" too much. I would emphasize the fact that you were taking a class for which you basically missed the prerequsite and were unprepared. Mention that you plan to re-take it at the new college. (My teenager wrote a similar note about her math confusion in 10th grade when she transferred to a new high school, and it worked: she got admmitted to all colleges that she sent the note to.) Good luck with your transfer.

I explained the D in detail in a letter I attached to the transcript. I think that helped a lot since I not only got accepted but I got accepted into the Honors program ! For whoever is in the same situation I dont mind sending the letter as an example. All the best ! And thank you for your advices !:D
