DECEMBER 2008 SAT Subject Test: World History

yup, legalism would've been the harsher option.

So...what's left out of these crazy questions...

Movement that most went against non-violence in Africa - Mau Mau rebellion?
What was one thing that didn't happen to Africa post-World War II - infastructure destruction?
In the passage about a Chinese scholar's views on the buddhist monk coming to China - what is its closest parallel? Christian martyr under Diocletian (IDK - social disorder? as implied by the Chinese scholar's worrying)

Where does Barron's talk about the Incas being more into natural-disaster prevention? It just seems that if the Aztecs sacrificed 20,000 people a year to avoid famine/floods/their sun burning out, then that would be a pretty extreme proactive aversion of disaster. Then again, I found a site talking about how Incas understood their earthquake-prone region and proactively built certain types of resistant houses...hmm vs. 20,000 sacrifices a year...grrr Collegeboard!

that's all I can think of. These seem somewhat sorted

The least oceangoing-trade people - Incas (actually banned merchant class)
Result of glorious revolution - less monarchy power...more parliament power
Confucianism - less emphasis on self and more of obedience to the leader
Homeric Hero - (the middle choice? C) courage etc.

what was that about mau mau rebellion??

I think it's important to note that the 20,000+ human sacrifices didn't actually do anything to help with natural disasters.

In their minds it did :)

yeah, about Confucianism, I'm pretty sure that the correct answer choice said something specifically about "sacrificing individual goals for the sake of the community." Basically word-for-word outta Barron's.

I got Mau Mau for that one, too.

but Mau Mau wasn't pacific at all

I didn't say pacific...we're talking about the one that was like "which of the following was VIOLENT, as opposed to non-violent?" The choices included Mau Mau, something in India, the U.S. Civil Rights movement...etc.

ok than Was me that misunderstood the question

Ok so there were two maps on the test. The first map answer was Holy Roman Empire, but the second map, I can't seem to remember but I think that part of North Africa was shaded and C. was 'Ottoman Empire' and D. was 'Safavid Persians.' I think I put C for that one. Does anyone know the right answer?

I def remember having to stop and think. I went with Ottoman.

I m sure that that was the ottoman empire
Ottoman Empire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

the map with north africa, Istanbul, and part of arabia was definitely ottoman empire, especially because the map called Constantinople Istanbul.
