DECEMBER 2008 SAT Subject Test: World History

thanks for the adding + organization Jcdenton 20 and dark knight.

For Indian cartoon, I think it's discouraging because the bridge seemed to lead into the cage. And the guy on the bridge had a scared expression on his face. I might have interpreted it wrong though, since I had like two minutes left until finishing time. People are saying that incorporation of Indian gods and godesses & pictures of Gandhi/Nehru is to arouse participation. But I do clearly remember Gandhi/Nehru had pained faces. (lol)

Unfortunately this is not the type of question, you can Wiki or research. Maybe I'll go google Indian Independence cartoons or something :)

Yeah, for slaves, I'm like 98% sure that it was "slave ship records and newspaper entries," as they put it.

Ok, the Buddhist monk talking to the Han emperor is obviously analogous to a priest of Jupiter talking to Constantine, c'mon now.....Both men would be advising the respective leader to maintain the religious status quo.

WHAT?! There's a Sumerian mother-goddess? eff. All the other ones seemed so...right. It was the only one in doubt, so I had to go with it.

@ Hookem168- Dude me too! Actually at first I thought the answer was 'gods were childish, frivilous etc.' but then I remembered how everyone in the Epic of Gilgamesh seemed kinda off their rocker. All the options seemed so right, except Answer D just looked waay too specific and innocent. Ackkkk =/

What the eff, are we positive she exists in Sumerian culture? Source?

haha Entrance to the shrine of Inanna, Sumerian Mother-Goddess that one just sucked.

I'm trying to find the indian cartoon as well as that buddhist/han text.

Any more questions? Answers to Africa?

That's bullcrap. Screw you, Sumerians!
Oh well, after seeing all the consolidated answers, I'm really not missing as many as I thought, so I guess I can take one more hit : /

EDIT: Ew, she's hideous, too! An overweight woman who aggressively gropes her own boobs? Not my thing.

was the first cities near river valleys Egypt??

i was stuck between Egypt (gaza etc) and Mesopotamia...

No, Mesopotamia

^^ Hahahaha, she's definitely a looker.

For NOT an WWII effect in Africa-

This whole website is on WWII effects on Africa. I'm sorry I don't remember all the answer choice so I can't really deduce what the right answer. Someone wanna look through?

2 WW1 and its effects

EDIT: Ooops, just realized this site is WWI effects, not WWII.

Hmmm this site has Effects of WWII on South Africa-
South Africa - The Impact of World War II

Is it any help at all?

was there worker unrest in Africa post-WWII?

that's the one that I put...

"Yeah, for slaves, I'm like 98% sure that it was "slave ship records and newspaper entries," as they put it." quote end

Yes slave ship records is compelling, but newspaper entries? why would they publish those numbers in newspapers? And newspapers werent even common till 1850 when the slavetrade had already (almost) stopped. I think it was a trick answerchoice because the first one is right and the second one is false...

thats why I put plantation records, could be wrong though, dunno

Don't forget that Africans enslaved each other, too. That wouldn't be reflected in ship records.

I think I put King's records or w/e only for that reason >_< dummmie

Africans enslaved each other and then gave them to European shippers. Plantations would not received all the Africans who died in the middle passage. Ships logs include the # of people being transported, # died, and where you docked - it's a business that was very efficient. Newspaper is weird, but they are actually used very often as primary sources for slavery saying the number of slaves for sale.

The African unrest question was one of those "except" questions, I rememeber these: labor unrest, African soldiers fought in WWII, destruction of industry due to WWII, and decolonization leading to pressures between communist/democratic.

true what you say about the ship records, BUT the newspaper simply scared me off... I guess its pointless to debate, lets wait for our score:)

hey people lets try to find all the remaining questions
I remember one from the begging , that one of the disadvantage of hunter gather societies to agricultural ones..??

I think I put agricultural societies could support larger populations. Is that right or no?

I think that should be right
