***December 2016 ACT Discussion Thread***

The Math test was by far the hardest I have ever encountered. This means there should a good curve. It was harder than Redbook 1 where you could miss eiight questions and still get a 34. Everything else was fine.

Even though I managed to finish reading section, I still feel uncertain about reading, because the humanity and social science passages contained lots of information that I had hard time dealing with those since the time was pretty strict. English and Math are my fortes, and science section was a little challenging… I ended up guessing 4, but I feel like I am going to miss more questions on both reading and science than I think would be. Hoping for a miracle!

Reading and Math were hard, but not un-doable. Science was easy (super easy in my opinion. I had time to spare, which is uncommon). English was normal. The writing prompt was stupid in my opinion. I predict a -1/2=35 curve on math. It probably seemed hard because it had a lot of statistics and theoretically questions, but IS was actually fairly basic.

Wow. So many typos haha. I meant -1/-2. I also meant “theoretical”. I also meant “it” not “IS”. Sorry.

S thought that the Reading/English were typical, the Science was easier than expected, and the Math harder than the practice exams.

Math- way harder than expected…
English- about normal
Reading- A lot of information in a short amount of time
Science- normal to a bit harder

I found the English and Reading extremely easy, almost too easy, but a little boring. I generally do poorly in math so I wasn’t shocked by the difficulty of that, but hopefully the curve will help me out since it seems like many people found it to be difficult. The science was decent, although I did run out of time to thoroughly answer the final passage’s questions.

On a different note, does anyone know when the scores come back? All the websites I’m seeing say the 20th, but a friend said that the ACT website said the 27th.

@mcco18 Yes the ACT website says “starting” the 27th. If you took the essay it will be 2 weeks after that.

@planner03 darn, I was looking forward to only 10 days of curiosity. Oh well, at least the holidays will speed things up. Thanks for letting me know!

This website says first day december 20 for MC. I actually took writing last time and my MC scores were still released on the first day available.

Yeah they will be out on the 20th.

Any science/reading curve projections?

I thougt R/E/S were all average or a little easier than usual, but math was harder than usual. I usually do worst in math anyway, but im now in precalc and thought I’d at least keep or improve upon my last score. Unfortunately that looks like a very slim possibility and I will probably have to take it again in January. Ugh

Does everyone taking the exams has the same questions? Like someone taking it in Japan and someone else taking it in the US?

After reading the article @suntzu36 posted, this test makes more sense. Luckily I am taking AP Chem and Acc Physics this year, so i understand most science topics to a certain degree, but i noticed the extra outside information i used when solving science ?s. And as i said, math was killer for me, with more difficult topics compared to prior tests and practice tests. A 30 was bad on a price treat for me (usually dumb mistakes), now I’m just hoping for a high 20s math.

@mcco18 Hmm…sorry if I was incorrect but I just logged in and it still says the earliest is the 27th. It must be that different regions get scores at different times? Log into your ACT account and find out what the specific date is for you…but you do have to add 2 weeks if you did the essay. It says that MC won’t be released without the essay, but @scn2018 says otherwise so who knows!

Website says they’ll be released starting on the 20th, whereas the registration page says 27th. Usually, most scores are released 10 days after the administration, so I’ll go with the 20th.

Any curve predictions?

This was my first and probably only time taking the test (I took SATs 3x) I thought the English was super easy, probably got a 35 or 36. Math was okay–super easy in beginning and last two pages I had to guess on a few. Reading killed me!! I knew it was less time, usually on SATs I read passage all the way through and have time to spare but yesterday I just skimmed passages to answer questions and I still had an entire passage + 10questions when they called 5 minutes. Science was okay, sometimes it took me a little bit to figure out what I was looking for. And then I feel like I killed the essay. Honestly just hoping I got a 30 composite.

@ally22 what did you get on the SAT?
