Anyone else taking the ACT tomorrow?

I was about to make this thread. Because, yes, I am.

This will be my first time taking it.

There doesn’t seem to be that many people that are taking it on CC though…

Yep I’m a first timer as well. I’m pretty excited, a little practice with practice tests and I’m fairly confident.

First time here as well. I signed up for fear of a poor December SAT, but I believe I did really well and I haven’t really prepared for this. I only took one practice test and kind of struggled with finishing Science and Reading sections on time

i’m taking it too kinda wish i had a lil more time with the math though

yeah i took the SAT last week, but i haven’t had any time to prep for the ACT

taking them back to back and the end of the semester was not one of my best ideas

Yeah, I haven’t really prepped much either:(. It’s my first time taking it too.

Good luck everyone. I’m off to bed. Finished a small amount of prep today and that’s about it lol

lol. i havent even seen an ACT test before. much less studied for it. As far as time constraints go, how bad would you say the time limit is? like really bad? i can always finish the SATs without worry of running out of time.

also, any tips for science? do i really need to study anything?

I actually liked taking the ACT more than the SAT.
In general, I feel that each test is geared towards different types of students. I couldn’t tell you the types exactly, but I can definitely tell you that I am an ACT kind of student!

However, the time restraints on the ACT seemed a little more restricted to me. Having previously taken the SAT twice, I assumed I would be fine on a time limit, but discovered that the ACT, because there are only 4 (or 5) sections instead of 10, has longer blocks of time to be concentrating. 40 minutes seems like a long time to do 30 questions, but you’re not interrupted by short breaks between sections as often, and, therefore, sometimes get more stressed towards the end of the time limit, depending on where you are. I was very comfortable with the english section, I got a 32 for that section, and ended up decreasing in points from that point on. You could say that I was becoming more stressed, as my brain was losing functionality as the test went on.

Anyways, I would say the time restraints may be a little smaller than you expect them to be.

And I will also be taking this test tomorrow. Good luck everyone!

Anyone else not have enough time on math?

Math is usually my strong point, but it will definitely be my worst score because I ran out of time and had to blindly guess on a few questions.

I also had enough time on the practice tests which seemed a lot easier than the one today.

Same thing happened to me on math, and to a lesser extent on science. I thought english and reading were easy though.

Ugh ***, I had like 10minutes extra on English/Math
Like nearly ran out of time on science/reading

Science was killer

is it alright to discuss questions yet

yeah i did not like that science section

Yeah English and reading were definitely easy to me when normally they are my weaker points. Science I also blindly guessed. I feel dumb.

First time taking it oh well.

Omg!!! It was horrible!

English: a tiny bit harder than usual since there were less grammar questions.

Math: easier than usual because I studied the 2009-2010 ACT preparation booklet last night; actually got to finish all the problems except one. There were a lot of similar problems on the December test.

Reading: a tiny bit easier than usual, almost ran out of time; had to rush a bit towards the end.

Science: it was hell!!! Why the heck did they add two extra sections with one in which you actually have to read passages?! It’s already hard enough to complete 5 sections. Seven sections = even more graphs grrrrrr. I failed. The only section that brought my average down for sure…

Essay: easy topic…I think I did alright…maybe a 9-10, possibly 11?

Overall: I HATE THIS SCIENCE SECTION!!!

Can we discuss the questions yet, lolz?

What was the measure of the congruent interior angles of a pentagon?

108 right
