Hi fourkorz. Hope your son’s auditions went well!
Thanks for your update. 2 weeks hmmm. That should drive me crazy.
I sure wish were we able to do auditions in the fall. It would have been nice to know something a little earlier. So we all will keep waiting:)
Just a little statistics for anyone who cares. (I have a business to run but you wouldn’t know it!)
I delved into IC Peers this morning.
It looks like 4 girls, 2 boys(one a transfer), and 3 unknown gender applications for MT have been accepted. For a total of 9 so far.
Of course, this is unscientific and only is based on kids who have actually signed up for IC Peers so who knows. It might have been a waste of time but I’m a researcher so I couldn’t help myself!

Don’t forget, those 9 accepted are probably accepted into some of the others they auditioned for, so it’s likely their acceptances may not affect the final numbers at all, one they have made a decision! Once final acceptances start being made, at least by May 1, the dominos start to fall very quickly, even involving kids who made commitments and then get acepted somewhere else they like better off waitlists. Acceptances off waitlists can go all the way into June!

Wait, Ithaca has a waitlist? I thought Greg said they didn’t when I auditioned… weird. maybe I heard wrong. it’d be so much better if they did.

PS, yeah, you can never REALLY tell how many kids were accepted off of there, just because some of them might’ve applied to the school with other majors and have been accepted for those and not MT or acting. but yeah the wait is going to drive me crazy. auditioned feb 1st and my audition hasn’t moved columns yet

^^I think what Christie means (apologies if I’m wrong) is that kids who got into Ithaca may get into another program, off THAT waitlist, later in the spring, and thus withdraw from Ithaca, creating an opening for someone else…Right? In any case, that’s a real possibility too, and she’s right that the “dominos” can keep falling into early summer.

All true Christie2. Thanks for the reminder.
From what I understood from the meeting we attended Ithaca will take approximately 32 MT’s to yield 14-16. So if that is correct then there should be approximately 23 more spots offered to MT’s. Maybe a few more if their yield is lower than expected.
HopefulMT2017, I believe this is correct and the 9 acceptances are for MT.
On ICPeers it’s fairly simple to pinpoint that these are in fact musical theatre majors not theatre arts etc. It’s actually stunning how transparent the whole system is.

Well… Looks like my audition finally moved columns. let the hopeless waiting game begin

Has anybody who auditioned at the LA Unifieds had their audition move columns yet? I know it’s still fairly early, but mine hasn’t moved yet and I’m kind of anxious!

My son’s has not moved, from January 12th in Washington…

I also auditioned in LA and my audition column has not moved yet.
I know of a couple of acceptances but I think a lot are from earlier auditions. I would imagine LA Unifieds will take a while to do because it was toward to the end of the audition tour for them.

3 weeks since the audition column moved… and still waiting! Aaaarghhh!

My son’s audition column moved! Thank goodness for fourkorz’s post above, I am trying not to get too nervous. I haven’t even told him about the audition column thing, he’s got enough on his plate – just got the lead in “Grease.” Seems to be causing more stress than joy.

I posted over in the Theatre/Drama thread - but we finally heard yesterday - admitted to the Acting program (decline on MT) – but we are very pleased. Ithaca’s Acting programs is one of the few that makes it relatively easy to still get vocal training. It is my S first acceptance (on a day with 2 other rejections), so this is good news. Hang in there everyone!

That’s one of the reasons Ithaca is in my son’s “top three.” He’s really more interested in Acting than MT, so we’d be very happy if he gets what your son got.

Congratulations to your son! How did you hear, by letter or e-mail or phone call?

That first acceptance means so much. It makes the whole college thing seem REAL for the first time!

Congrats fourkorz!

Interestingly, we had the same thing - no for MT, yes for acting (and my S actually did not express interest in the acting program, so we did scratch our heads a bit).

Prodesse - ours came via snail mail, but before that happened, his major had changed in MyIthaca to BFA acting, so we kind of thought that might have been the case. Letter arrived a few days later. Best of luck for your son to hear good news soon!

I know I’m overthinking this but I can’t stop myself! Again, I’m not telling my kid about this arcane stuff, I’m keeping my OCD to myself.

In my son’s case he actually applied to Acting, but at the audition in Washington DC he auditioned for MT because he figured, they won’t make me dance, so I might as well show I’m a good singer, it might help. (He’s a bass/baritone.) MyIthaca says Acting and always has. So who knows?

Good to know I shouldn’t be expecting a phone call. We keep our phone ringer turned off most of the time!

preodesse - when my son’s major changed from MT to Acting, I called - they would only tell me that my son should call to speak to an admissions counselor. When he called they told him. Apparently the letter went out the other day, so snail mail is the official way.

prodesse, we got a big envelope (for MT), and my D’s MyIthaca status changed to accepted at the same time. So check your MyIthaca account as well!

Congrats, fourkorz! Ithaca has been my D’s favorite since April of her junior year when we visited. She just loves the facilities and the people. She called and they are letting her come sit in on and classes in April, to see what it’s really like, and we’re hoping to see Spring Awakening (which is sold out). I can hardly wrap my head around the fact that she got into her favorite school. It just doesn’t seem real.

Break legs to all who are still waiting to hear!

Great News Fourkorz! Maybe we can have lunch again soon in Ithaca!
After an emotional roller coaster of a day, my son received the infamous yellow bar.
Accepted for MT! He is very excited. Ithaca has always been at the very top of his list.
Crazy journey we are all on.

Congrats, md311mt!

Great news for your kids above!

In recent years, kids from our area have gone to Ithaca who are truly MT kids, but got in for Acting, when they did not for MT. They were still quite active in MT, and were in musicals at Ithaca and took voice, etc. there.

Back in my D’s year, her MT acceptance to Ithaca was her first one of the season and so I remember it well. It was not at the top of her list but it is a wonderful program.
