Decisions are up!

I know this has been repeated over and over on this board, but here's my official reiteration of what is going on:

DECISIONS ARE AVAILABLE.

Today, you will receive (or have already received) an email informing you that your decisions may be viewed on your Chicago Account. If you do not receive this email, don't worry! You can still log in to see your decision. If you have never logged in before, your user name is the email address you used on your Common Application, and you can look up your password by clicking "Forgot your password?"*

We are rolling out decisions based on time zone. If you have not received your email, please check after school. PLEASE NOTE: our server is very busy right now, so if you cannot view your decision letter, please check back in an hour or so.

When you log in, you will be given one last chance not to view your decision online, in the off chance that you were just strolling by the website and suddenly tripped and logged into your account and didn't even want to find out your decision that way. If you indeed want to know your decision right now, you can proceed to see your letter.

Please do not call the office for your admissions decision. We do not give decisions by phone, email, or any other means of communication except for the letter in your Chicago Account or in the mail. If you are unable to retrieve your decision online and do not receive it in the mail for two weeks, let us know and we will resend it in the mail.

*If you have any issues logging in to your Chicago Account, please contact Elizabeth Hemphill, at hemphill@uchicago.edu. If, by 10 p.m. C.T. tonight, you cannot view your decision, please email me to let me know. If you have any questions in general, please contact the Office of College Admissions at collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu or 773-702-8650.

ONCE AGAIN, IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE ACCESSING YOUR ACCOUNT, PLEASE WAIT AND TRY AGAIN LATER. WE HAVE HUGE VOLUMES OF PEOPLE TRYING TO ACCESS RIGHT NOW AND IT IS STRESSING OUR SERVER CAPACITY. YOU SHOULD ONLY CONTACT US IF YOU CANNOT VIEW YOUR ACCOUNT AFTER 10PM TONIGHT.

And congrats, admitted students! Please feel free to sign in to Phoenix Facebook through your Chicago account- we've got a load of current students waiting to talk to you and answer your questions in the Chat section.

Okay…
But what does it mean if we received an e-mail but when we log in to the website we see no decision at all?

Yep Grace I second that question. Actually my question is what if I didn’t get any email and can’t see any decision? Can you confirm that there’s no pattern to what sort of decisions are being sent out first? (other than the reported time-zone pattern of course)

Yes, srrinath’s question is very important!

What does it mean that decisions are being sent out by “time zone”?

Yes, srrinath’s question is very important!

What does it mean that decisions are being sent out by “time zone”?

bump this~…yes,I don’t understand “the time zone pattern”

Yeah, if the decisions are supposedly being sent out by time zone, why have people from my school received decisions, but i haven’t?

I already viewed my decision, but based on the testimonials on this website, I was one of the early ones. But now when I go back there seems to be a serious issue (obviously the server overload). What has me concerned is that as it struggled to get to my homepage it displayed “my account” and not “admitted student section” as before, though i never actually made it to my account. I think Im just paranoid because my best friend’s school had posted every got accepted only to later take it down… but can you confirm that any errors are merely server based and don’t concern the actual decisions themselves?

By “Time Zone” means that we are sending e-mail notifications and releasing decisions by 3pm in whatever time zone you are in to discourage you from checking decisions from school (sorry to those of you who are on break). International students, hang tight, yours may be coming interspersed in there.

Then why have not all students at the same school heard?

I’m on the east coast, it’s 6 p.m. here. My account isn’t loading/when it does nothing has been updated. Does this mean I didn’t get in? In other words, are you releasing acceptances first?

The time zone thing is clearly not true as many people in the EST zone have heard while I (and many others) have not. I got excited when i got my email, only to go to my account and not find a decision. Very disheartening :(.

I’m not even able to log into my account. I don’t mind waiting for my decision, if only I can do so with the peace of mind that the wait is not correlated with rejections/deferrals

Because of people putting up the links on CC, some people have had early access to the link enabling them to check their decisions through their Chicago account, even though we may not have sent them their personal e-mail. While for some people this will work, technically everything is set up to work once it is 3pm in your time zone, so although some may have been able to gain early access others may not.

Does that mean 3pm for Internationals too?? so Dec 16th 3pm for China??

Wait is not correlated with rejection/deferral. We’ve got a huge surge of people trying to log in and are having server problems because of this. Hang on!

International students: you will not have to wait forever; you may try logging in with the link provided all over everywhere, or, to make things easier, wait until you receive your e-mail (it should be within the next few hours) and try then.

How do you explain the 3 people in my school that got in, all having received e-mails, while my home page has no decision posted at all? I’m fairly sure that implies rejection/deferral.

Are you saying then that random individuals will be the ones to experience server problems?

I just managed to sign in and the decision is still not posted on my account.

I’ve accepted the fact that the decision will bring bad news : (
