Since it's only open to junior-level students, should I declare no major on the application? (I'm a freshman applicant.) It says you have to declare a major on each campus. Please help! Thanks.

The film major is pretty competitive, so you should have a “backup” major anyways in case you don’t get into the program.

So, if I declared a different major, would I have to take classes for that major until junior year and then declare the Film major? :-/

Yes. It would be best to pick a major that overlaps as much as possible with the GE and other requirements for the film school, so if you do get accepted into the major all your previous classes wouldn’t have gone to waste. That, or pick a major that you would like to do/finish even if you didnt get into the film school.

You will enter UCLA undeclared. My daughter is now a sophomore at UCLA. She wants to get into the Communication Studies program. She must apply for it as a UCLA student just like the Film School. So when she first for UCLA she applied and was accepted as “undeclared”. Now that she is a sophomore she can apply for the program. She has mainly been taking GE courses that everyone needs as well as some comm. classes and even a sreeenwriting class. So I believe you wil apply undeclared, take some lower division film classes, take GE’s and take some classes for yur backup major. Then apply for your major and hope you get in. If you don’t, you still have a back up plan and you can still take some film classes while there (although most are for film majors only).

You should study the UCLA website and go to open house events to get your questions answered. Also study the Film major website completely.
