I was deferred from FSU and very disappointed. My GPA is a 4.1 w, 3.4 uw. I called FSU and found my FSU gpa is a 3.5. My sat is a 1230/1930. I received a 26 on my ACT. I played 3 years of football, and 4 years of lacrosse. I was in 4 clubs. My grades for the first semester are going to be 4 B's and 3 A's with a FSU gpa of a 4.0.

I called to ask them their main concern and they said the problem lies within my freshman and sophomore grades. When I was younger I received one D freshman year, and two sophomore year. I plan on going for a visit and talking to admissions and explaining that I've matured and my grades have skyrocketed since than. What do you think my chances are of being accepted in December? FSU is really the only school I see myself going to. I've been accepted to UCF as a back up, but I think I would go to TCC than transfer before going to UCF.

Sorry to hear that. I had similar stats (2020 sat, 3.3 FSU gpa) varsity lacrosse for 3 years…and was deferred. I talked to an admissions counselor and he said the same thing - the main reason was that I had pretty much failed Calculus in junior year. Only thing you can really do is keep your grades up this semester.

Firstly, sorry to hear about your deferment and in all sincerity, visiting the admissions officer for a face to face probably wont accomplish much other than possibly making them and yourself upset. I really do not believe that they will turn your deferral into an acceptance because you tell them some “hard luck” story.
Id strongly suggest that you direct your energy into what you need to accomplish in order to turn your deferral into an acceptance and then you have accomplished your goal. !

deferredlol- thanks and same to you, since it seems like if one of us gets in both of us will.

dsviddj- I am just trying to do everything. I plan on retaking my sats in january and meeting with them after they get my first semester grades for senior year.

My class was informed that freshman applicants differed are usually those who fill in the freshman class with openings during May when does originally offered acceptance have turned-down FSU/UF and several openings pop up. During my last visit to both FSU/UF, the admissions officer informed my group that due to the economy, she believed that there would be minimal openings for deferrals as probably more will accept than projected. This happened last year to both FSU/UF. Good Luck

Yeah, you visiting an admissions officer isn’t going to help. You had three D’s on your transcripts. One might be able to be overlooked (especially if you countered it with say, a B or A the other semester), but three? You could have a 2400 SAT and a hell of a lot more and would still likely be deferred. One D is a big deal. Two is even worse. Three is almost insane.

Your odds of getting accepted are honestly pretty slim. If you show a huge improvement in your grades from this semester, that would be a serious help. However, I really would not expect FSU to accept you at a later date, honestly.
