My status change from you will hear back in 10-12 weeks and now it says awaiting 7th semester grades and As our office receives a large volume of documents each day, many transcripts (and related documents) may take up to 4 weeks before they are listed as received by this system. However, this will not protract the 12-week window for your receiving a decision, as the start date for an applicant's waiting period will be the day the final required item was actually received by our office (and not the later date that it becomes viewable in this system). We appreciate your patience in this regard, and your continued interest in Michigan State University. I think it means I got deferred but not really sure. Any help would be great.

Seems to be a popular message from the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor as well. I think when someone asked about it on UofM forum, a user replied saying they were deffered.

Mine posting your stats?

Not too impressive...3.3 25 took the ACT again, find out the results next week. I had an awful freshman year...soph year 3.5, junior year i had 3.7, first tri senior year 3.8. But two people I know got the same message...One had 3.5 27 the other 3.2 30.

i got the same thing.

stats

fairly challenging courses
pretty good extra curriculars.
very good rec
good essays
but i was suspended once.

ipam, I'm pretty sure MSU doesn't superscore the ACT.

yeah i figured...most schools dont

It means that they want to see your 7th semester grades to make a decision. They'll usually send out decisions in April. I got deferred last year and then I got waitlisted. They offered me a spot for Spring semester that i took. They later called me in late June to tell me that they could accept me for Fall.

Yeah, perhaps they would like to see another set of grades. I'm currently a junior, but will be applying to Michigan State University next school year. I'm still nervous of my self not getting accepted, though I'm more calm about it then I was last year.

Seems like MSU is letting in a lot more OOS students this year.

I got accepted with a 3.6 W GPA and 27 ACT Score
& I also recieved a scholarship.

I'm really surprised that you both got deferred because I've seen peeopl with worse stats get accepted.

coolbreeze--

Make sure you apply to MSU as early as you possibly can. That way you give yourself the best chances to get in. A lot of people wait till last minute and they are really hurting their chances by doing so. It's awesome that your thinking ahead. I wish I was on this forum last year getting tips on how to better my grades.

Good Luck!

wow, i can't believe you guys would be differed. Some of my friends got in with 21 ACT and 3.3 GPA's. And no challenging courses really. I can't see you guys being denied with 25+ scores.

Tilohnine I have plans to apply to MSU as soon as 2010 applications are open, and tracking 2009 applications it seems like it will be around August. Though I'm second guessing on applying to early, I heard it hurt your chances more with scholarships.

Yeah, it's weird. I talked to some friends at other schools and they have been saying kids there have been getting in with like 3.3 23 and stuff so I have no idea at all how they are choosing who gets in and not. I sent my updated grades and ACT and got my ACT up to a 27 so now I have a 3.35 gpa and 27 ACT. So hopefully that'll help.

anyone no if you have much of a chance after being deferred or is it basically a rejection

I remember reading somewhere that at MSU approximately half of those deferred eventually got accepted. So really I think there is a good chance of getting accepted...it mostly depends on your 7th semester grades

oh wow....

If it helps, it said that I didn't turn in my transcripts online but today i got an acceptance letter in the mail

did anyone else get a letter that "strongly suggest that you find other accommodations"

i heard from my counselor that if you submitted your application for early decision but if you completed it in like early-mid November, we were all deferred.

but now people who submitted a few weeks after that for regular, thedidn't need to submit the 7th semester grade were getting their decision while MSU waited for our grades. so a lot of spaces is filled with early regular decision and the deferred students were basically left to dry. so i think it puts people who applied for ED at a disadvantage if they applied to late for ED.

just what i think is happening, doesn't mean it's the truth.

Did you have to fill out a special application or something to be considered ED?

they sent me a thingy that asked me to turn it in by some day, and i'm pretty sure that i sent everything in before then. there are a few people in my school that are in the same situation.
