<p>I was just deferred from LSA with these stats:
NC female with legacy x 3. White/middle eastern.
uw/w GPA: 3.9/4.8 with a slight upward trend
rank: 14/475, I should be in top 10 once my gpa is recalculated.
sat: 1880 in one sitting (probabl.y what got me deferred)
I currently am taking 6 ap classes and one honor, and got straight a's last semester. I have several
leadership roles. I am an NC scholar, a junior marshall, and I am interested in music/science. What should I do? I am pretty bummed. I was already set to take the act tomorrow for umich consideration. Should I submit additional letters of recommendation? Have my grandpa - my closest alumni - send a letter? Send them a letter myself showing my continued interest? I have tried so hard. I feel like I was just kicked.</p>
<p>Don’t think it was the SATs, 1870 and got accepted EA.</p>

<p>bellugs, you were fortunate to be admitted with your SAT. The mid 50% range for admitted students last year was 2000-2200. Anything less than 1900 is a serious handicap.</p>
<p>I was deferred from Duke, my SAT score was around 100 points above yours. If you go to the Duke deferred applicants thread, I posted a link to a website with detailed advice, and it’s pretty good. Do read it, it was written by a few Deans from various admissions offices. It will help.</p>
<p>In my case, I sent some grades from my exams (upward trend) and will be sending a cover letter along with a letter of recommendation from my employer. You could also do something similar to show continued interest.</p>
<p>Being deferred is not the end, I’m sure you will be accepted in other colleges! 
Good luck and don’t give up! It’s always worth a shot, especially since you’ve gotten so far.</p>
<p>Thanks for the comments you guys. I hope the ACT went better than the SAT. I am going to definitely look into your post, sleepdeficit. I definitely do think it was my sat score that caused my deferral. I am going to send them what I can. Hopefully my act scores, my fall semester transcript, and my three latters of recommendation I am going to send (one from a staff member at um :)I ) will give a better picture of me. I am glad I wasn’t flat out rejected - acceptance after deferral rate at michigan is higher than most anyways - and I continue to look favorably upon what ever happens. I love every thing about michigan, but I won’t let it upset me. Hopefully you other deferred individuals can feel the same way I do.</p>
