Deferred?

I applied to University of Central Florida in the end of September for rolling admissions. I received this notice :

"Your application has undergone an initial review and is currently deferred for further evaluation with the Admissions Committee. A decision may be delayed as we assess the strength of this year's applicant pool.

If you would like to submit additional information or test scores to improve your competitiveness and allow us to make a more immediate decision, please send additional credentials to the UCF Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

This is your current status. Your status is subject to change at any time depending upon receipt of new information and further review by the Admissions Committee, and may be confirmed in writing via a letter from the Director of Undergraduate Admissions."

Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it take to receive an answer? (from any college) I have taken my ACT's and my score has went up and I am going to take them again. Any other advice would be appreciated.

Just a guess, but the college may wait to make a decision until seeing your fall semester grades.

You may want to communicate to them that UCF is your first choice, that you will attend if admitted and that you selected UCF because... Show them your improved test scores, your solid fall semester grades and your commitment to attend their school.

I hope you have a successful outcome.

seems they are sending out a lot of deferrals...My D is still waiting but I expect a defer or outright rejection. Her SAT's are not too hot and so Im not very hopeful plus we are out of state...What are your stats? Are you in state?

I am out of state also. My stats are at the minimum for the school

I was deferred from CNU in Virginia...it was a little disappointing because I was expecting to get in easily. They told me they'll accept me if my semester grades are good (which they are, thank goodness), so I think having a strong first semester is really important. I should be receiving a letter from my first choice school in January. If I get deferred there I'm going to make sure they know that it's my first choice (I submitted my application in August for heaven's sake) and really try to push that point across.

My daughter was also deferred for Fall 09 admission to UCF and then three days later out of the blue her status changed to admit Summer 09. She did nothing to change her status...it changed on its own. We are also out of state (NJ) and her SAT/ACT scores are weak but her GPA is very strong (3.79 unweighted). Her best friend also was deferred for 2 weeks and then her status changed to admit...but to Fall 09, not Summer. She submitted additional teacher recommendations and wrote several e-mails to Admissions reminding them that UCF was her 1rst choice. Good Luck.
