desperate for help!

My freshmen GPA is horrible... I mean REALLY horrible like 2.x
I managed to bring the GPA up to 3.2 during my sophomore year and my junior year GPA was 4.4.... Considering that I have high SAT SCORE like 2100~2400 and high SAT II scores, good recs, good ec, good essay.... Do I have a chance at going to schools like WUSTL or U of Michigan or Notre Dame or NYU etc??

there really wasn't a reason my grades were so low during fresh/sopho but there is a reason why my grades sky rocketted during junior year... but then I had no APs in junior year but only 2 honors courses.... Math and English...However I will be taking 4 AP courses by senior year....

Hard to say. Many colleges, including wustl, value the upward trend, but of course straight As for four years is better. Its a shame that you had no APs before your senior year. AP grades are another equalizer, because many students can have As in the course and get a 1 or 2 on the exam. Having no AP grades hurts, but not much. I would take a few more SATIIs to make up the lack of APs. I would schedule an interview with an admissions officer (not a student) and be frank that as a freshman school wasn't a priority, but you've now matured. Pair that with the high SATs, a good essay, and ECs, and you have a more than decent chance. Realize that a strictly numbers GPA is not a deciding factor. With grade inflation and such, the quality of the school and rank is taken into account when looking at a GPA. Also if even during your bad years you were good in some subjects, play it in the interview. "I was always a math kid" and so on.

well my school offers only 1 AP for juniors...US history

I think most colleges like to see an upward trend...I do not think freshman year is a big deal...sophomore, junior, and especially senior year is!!! If your school only offers 1 AP junior year, so be it....that could work to your advantage! Your SAT scores look pretty good! What are some of your ECs?

its a really long list.... its not something like genetic research or whatever but alot of community service and alot of awards..

Don't make it too long. I would group activities, such as community service, sports, and clubs. Then list the top one or two activities for each group. The don't want a laundry list, they want to see commitment to activities you like, so make them see it.

if ur freshman gpa sucks then thats good. it left u a lot of room for improvement which you did. washU likes that.

u'll get in

How do you know that WashU likes upward trends? Is it because they say that they like upward trends? Frankly, I think that this is lip service. I think that Washington University does not like upward trends because they waitlisted and almost rejected me. I had an upward trend in my GPA.

Intotherain, like you, I also had a 2.x freshman year. However, my sophomore, junior, and senior years were excellent. My SAT scores were good, and my teacher recs and essays were spectacular. Furthermore, since my sophomore year, I had kept close contact with Washu. I kindly emailed the Admissions office, Ms. Tarbourini, and ms. gomez. I went to practically every WashU function that was nearby. When washU visited my high school, I was the first one to sign up.

To boost my academic credentials, I was recognized by the National merit program and I won some essay contests.

What happened--I land a spot on the waitlist. WashU likes upward trends? I don't think so. Just look at what happened to me.

Maybe they had way too many candidates to choose from? Are you still interested in going to Wash U? I heard that they sometimes will encourage waitlisted students to enroll 2nd semester—January, when kids transfer to other schools. Why not give Ms. Tarbourini a call. I think it's curious that they did not accept you...?

WashU is great. I was interested in the school ever since I was a little kid. However, after reading the brutal waitlist letter that they sent me, I decided to move on. I enrolled in another college. I also do find it curious that they didn't accept me considering the fact that I was accepted to other prestigious schools such as Emory and the University of Chicago. But, I've realized that life is very unpredictable.

What school did you decide on?

Care to guess?

this is scaring me -_- you sound just like me........... what if that happens to me too!!

I'm going to Emory. Intotherain, I hope that this doesn't happen to you.

you scared meeeeeeeeeeeeee :( now I have absolutely no confidence...

do you think WUSTL is harder than Emory to get in?

WashU has an approximate 20% acceptance rate. Emory has an approximate 37% acceptance rate.

I think that the numbers do the talking.

Intotherain, are you considering emory. Please don't be discouraged by anything that I said. Miracles do happen.

I was gonna go into biomed engineering.... does emory have it?

yes, but it's for five years. You also have to take courses at georgia tech.

That is kinda weird..... AHHHH I would just rather attend BME at WUSTL but now I lost completely hope ...... You sound just like me~
