What would Haas look for from a transfer student? GPA? Activities? Honor classes? Anything please. Just tell me what would enhance my application for Haas? I’m not planning to apply for any alternative schools so I need to work just for it.
Have you even looked at the web site? It’s all there. https://haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/transfer_admissions.html
I know. but it is just a web page. I need some real tips from someone who really got in since everyone can obtain informations from their website, and we all know that getting in is competitive. So you need more suggestions and reading their requirement would make me no more than an average applicant.
Here is the profile of admitted students: https://haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/class_profile.html
Why are you not applying to other schools in addition to Haas?
@boxandwhiskers Raises a valid question. You could be the PERFECT candidate for Haas and still be rejected. I would strongly advise considering other schools in addition to Haas. Good luck.
Can you give us a better picture of yourself? Like, are you just starting at DVC? How many units do you have? What type of GPA?
The information to get into Haas is readily available, and there’s no real “inside” information that will help you out. GPA is king, and as long as you’re within the average GPA (obviously, the higher the better), that basically lumps you into a huge group of people with similar GPAs. From there, it’s really setting yourself apart with extra curricular activities, the essays, your resume, etc. Of course, you need to have EVERY pre-req completed (or planned before the Spring semester prior to when you want to apply) to even be considered.
It’s certainly possible to only apply there and get in, but as others said, people with 4.0’s get turned down every year simply because they only take ~80 transfers out of a pretty decently sized pool. It certainly wouldn’t be the wisest choice to only apply there.
Again, the information is readily available if you take some time to search on your own. If you have specific questions, people would be happy to help. Not taking the time to research it yourself and find specific questions you need answers to makes you no more than the average applicant.
Done my 2nd semester, and have 3 to go, I will finish all the pre-req before transferring and have more than 60 units at the end.
I KNOW that informations about what they’re looking for are available on their site, thus, I’ve done the research to be honest. I just need some people to tell me what they’re really looking for of an applicant. I need something more than just a website that everybody can see. GPA, for sure. Then?
GPA: 3.8 UW
By “UW,” you mean unweighted? If so, I don’t think of that means anything for transfers. All that matters are classes you take that are UC transferable, which will make up your GPA.
If you search, beyond the Haas website, you’ll find plenty of websites made by Haas students either when they were in or when they got out. There’s also the Haas undergad student blog. A ton of posts on Ms. Sun’s website. There are are million posts on here and elsewhere about it. You just have to get creative with Google.
Regardless, it’s all pretty basic … get great grades, be active on campus and in the community, complete all the required courses, and present yourself well in the three essays, showing them why you are unique and why your experience/background will make you a valuable member at Haas.
