^whoa good luck man. I’ll be in 10th grade but it’ll seem like 11th grade by how much I’ll have to work. Normal classes and 4-6 self study’s with an SAT practice test twice a week.

im president of 8 clubs. im doing everything next year because i dont want to go to high school my senior year haha.
idk, i just always hated high school. i mean i live 10 minutes away from princeton so im just gonna take compsci, number theory, and gov at pu probably if it all works out and just go to college. but that would be the ideal dream. and ideal dreams usually never work out.

@megafund, your super lucky you found this site now. i just took 2 aps as a sophomore and thought i was a genius. then i came here and found out how dumb i am. then i decided to up the ante. but just take it slow and you should be alright.

@Bluedevils: Wow. That’s one of the most ambitious schedules I’ve ever seen. To me, it seems pretty much impossible. Im sure you already know this, but you don’t need to achieve that much to get into a college like Princeton. I’m a junior like you, and all I have (compared to you) is AP Calc BC, AP Physics B and C, AP Psych, and AP Comparative Govt. I might self AP Enviro. And that’s already gonna be a lot for me over the school year.

@upsidedown, for me its not about trying to do all these aps…its about not going to high school senior year. @div301, wow your doing college algebra? where? and what were the pre-reqs?

@megafund, one of the big things about community service is that its not the hours that matter. its what you do in them, if your aspiring to go to harvard dont lift boxes for hours. find a way to directly help someone. create tournaments, raise money, then donate it. kids who go to harvard dont do grunt work and volunteer at the homeless shelter. they run the homeless center. what i did is create a club, create tournaments, involve community, raise $1,000. donate to a community center. run the center. and im aiming for a lot more this year.
and freshman year, i had 25 people come out to my tournament and raised no money. but sophomore year, i had a plan and i was organized and i got 200 people. this year, i plan for 500 people by involving corporate sponsors.
anythings possible if you really commit yourself to it, no matter how stupid it sounds, pursue every idea you have cause you never know which one might be ‘it’.
and another thing, i used to tutor for an organization. but i absolutely cant stand authority or anyone telling me what to do. so i created my own mentoring organization. involve your friends, everyone gets hours and wins.

so really i would say, talk to your friends, create things but make sure your on top. you want to make sure you are the president and founder, otherwise all your work will go to waste.
and let me know if youve got any questions and would like me to help out!

bluedevils31 - you’re not going to end up self-studying all of those, I can guarantee you that. I know that you expressed sentiments in this thread about how stressful school was for you. You do not have to do that to get into a great school, and in fact, you can lead a much happier high school life to get into a top school.

While I’m sure that self-studying brings you intrinsic pleasure like it does for the rest of us, I’m honestly concerned that you’re going to be put on suicide watch if you try to do all of those exams plus all of those extracurruciulars in junior year.

As I’ve mentioned before, I took 8 AP exams (7 classes, one self-study) as a junior and 11 (9 classes, two self-studies) as a senior. But I also was never stressed, whereas I’ve seen your posts about how stressed you got as a sophomore trying to balance everything and how you’re scared for junior year. I feel like taking 18 AP exams is one year is the wrong idea for you. Unless you have misrepresented yourself, your study habits, your free time, and your ability to deal with adversity on these forums, I can safely say that you are NOT going to be able to take 18 AP exams without sacrificing something important - whether it be extracurriculars you love to do, a social life, or your health.

That’s just my two cents. I’m sorry if it came off harsh, but I don’t want anybody to be unhappy in high school, and I’m worried that’s the path you’re setting up for yourself.

^I agree. You can get into Harvard with less than 10 AP’s. 18 is alot of work but can be done. He might not have a social life and might be doing school work 19 hours/day but its doable. Imagine if he actually does do 18 in a year and get 4’s and 5’s on them…he’ll be able to do anything he puts his mind to.

well alot of what im going to take ive already done
ap stat = done sophomore year, i got a 4 so im just gonna retake
ap macro = done sophomore year, i got a 4
ap physics b = done

and then the rest,
well a part of my problem is that i dont know what i want to be
so if i just try to study eveyrthing i’ll eventually only wanna study the ones i like which will help me understand what i wanna major in and stuff
and yeah, im not going to sacrifice my girlfriend or my friends.
but tv? and going out every night to hooters? yes. obviously, im going to have to make more mature decisions
but i will try as much as possible to try and take every exam, i mean i talked to @therealfake, and he said it wasnt that bad, he took 18 as well. so i mean, i guess we’ll see as the year progresses and schoolwork builds up.

@keasbey nights, its not really about getting into the school why im doing this. if that was the reason i could take a much smaller amount
again its for two reasons.
I want to get out of high school asap
I want to find what I truly love.

And yeah, i’ve definitely learned to manage my time better than sophomore year haha. i think a big part of it was the fear of the unknown of failing and getting a 4. but then i did, and its not a big deal. so hopefully, i’ll be alright now.

@bluedevils31,
your school let you do it? My school looks down on dodgeball and I’m not even allowed to make clubs in school everything I do would have to be out of school.

@megafund, yeah they were skeptical at first and were like 0.o. but i mean i made them realize that i can really help our school and do big things. and they let me do what i want. again, freshman year wasnt a big sucess. sophomore year, i had some sucess and im hoping to make it real big this year. do you have any ideas on what would excite your school?
