Did other people get a handwritten note from admissions?

I got a note from the assitant admissions dean about a week ago. It was very nice but I wasn't thinking too much about, but then I thought it might be a likely letter of some kind even though it doesn't say anything about me getting in. Does everyone get one? If so, that's a really nice thing for Davidson to do.

My S's classmate got a note from a DC admissions officer saying how much he liked his essay - or so my S told me - or so my S's friend told him and my S told me. Based on my S's friend's credentials and what he probably wrote I believe it - I've got to believe that DC would offer admit to this kid. So my guess is that DC is doing a little pre-admit PR to keep favorably in the minds of those kids to whom it expects to offer admission. Accordingly, if you got a letter like that you're application is in the right stack (at least that's how I see it in my humble opinion which is based entirely on a very limited scope of personal anecdoctal experience.) But I think I'm right. Good luck to you.

No, I didn't. But I got a letter dated Feb. 19th from the Biology department that closed with "I hope that you choose Davidson and that we can get to know each other in the coming years." I don't really know if that means anything, but it seems like it would be mean to send that to someone who was going to be rejected. Whooo knows though. Did anybody else receive letters like this from the departments of their interests?

I would consider that a very good sign. People have noted on this forum that DC doesn't keep in contact with students during the admissions process very well. This seems to me to be an attempt to keep you interested in the school as the final days before admissions offers drag by. Can't imagine they'd send notes to people they aren't going to accept. But ... if you didn't get such a note, that doesn't mean you won't get accepted. :)

I didn't get one of those, bluetissues. I agree, though, it would be a little strange to send things like this out and then reject those people. I don't know what to make of it, but I'm probably just overthinking things.

I got the one handwritten note (dated Feb. 22) that complimented some things in my application, and today I got what seems to be a pretty standard typed letter. It just said that the read the first part of my app and look forward to reading the second, or something like that.
