Didn't Get Into Honors Chem

So math based tests have always been a sore spot for me, and I think I failed one today. Our chem placement test for honors was math based and I’m almost positive I failed. If all other parts of my requirements into honors chem (teacher rec, grades met, teacher rec) are filled do you think my school will have any leniency towards my placement? I have a B+/A- (depends on finals grade) in honors biology and a B/B- in honors geometry. I probably got somewhere around 60% on my placement test which is technically passing so I didn’t totally fail but it was just a really bad day (stress from finals and other stuff) so I really hope they make some sort of exception because if I’m not in honors chem my dreams of going to a top university are ruined.

*I know I sound like I’m just making excuses, but I’m in a class where everyone passes the placement and the highest math class possible so I’m really, otherwise, qualified other than the screwed up placement test.

Nobody here can answer your question - you need to speak to the people in your HS who make the placement decision.

Do you think it is a good idea to take a class that might be too difficult for you? Is there ‘regular’ chemistry that moves at a slower pace and perhaps is a better fit for your current math abilities?

If the test is math based, then the odds are pretty good that the course will be as well.

Take the word of the teachers who made up the test. It sounds as though you’ll be happier-- and get higher grades-- in the non-math-heavy Chem course.

There was a lot of math in my daughter’s chemistry classes. There is a reason for placement tests.

The math in chem is pretty simple. Mostly algebra 1. There’s a reason for placement tests in the school and it seems you are not ready.

^^^ How do you know what math was on his placement test, or how his school defines “honors chemistry”??

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
This whole thread seems like clickbait. The header “Didn’t Get Into Honors Chem” is misrepresenting. You took the test today, and you don’t know the scores, so you don’t know if you got into the class or not. If and when the time comes that you did not get into the class, feel free to repost your question although @bjkmom 's posts make a lot of sense.

Additionally:

No they’re not. If you do not get into a “top university” (whatever definition you’re using here), it will not be because you did not get into honors chem.

Closing thread.
