What are the differences between the AP, CLEP, and SAT II tests? (# of college credits, difficulty of tests, how they look on transcript, etc.) Thanks!
College credit policy is specific to the college. AP and CLEP tests can potentially grant college credit, but not all schools accept all subjects, and the amount of credit granted will vary. Colleges can also decide if the credit can or can’t be applied to the major, gen ed requirements, etc.
SAT Subject Tests (formerly SAT II Tests) are more of an admissions tool and test to a much lower level than AP/CLEP. So, as an example, AP Calc tests calc knowledge (obviously ) while the SAT Math 2 test covers through pre-calc. Also not all colleges require Subject Tests for admissions. In fact, relatively few do. SAT Subject Tests will rarely get college credit, but a high enough score on a foreign language test may exempt a student from the foreign language requirement, if the college has one.
