Hi, just a quick check here (for a more detailed description please check out my other threads if you care to):
I’m a current HS junior, taking a vigorous courseload and hoping to get into University of Washington.
Unweighted GPA: 3.6
Weighted GPA: 4.0
I have taken 10/12 AP classes offered at my school (exclusing Art History and Calculus), I have a passion for learning, politics, and biological sciences.
My extracurriculars consist of 200+ hours of community service, a creation of a club for endangered species, and hopefully an internship this summer for biology or one at the state capital.
My questions:
- What SAT score should I aim to get?
- What other extracurricular activities should I consider doing?
- Is this probable?
Thank you so much for reading this, and please reply if you can.
Ok since I live in Seattle I know a lot about admissions to UW. And there are a few important things that can boost your apps. 1. Are you a in state student? If so that will substantially help you bc UW gives first priorities to in state where most instate students get admitted while a lot of out of state students get rejected. Your hooks are very important to the school. The school is currently having a problem with diversity, so showing you are cultured and you have done something that has enlightened your social views can help you. Make sure you have taken a language in hs bc that can really help you as well. The gpa you have is decent it So you have a fair shot, but since you have taken so many AP’s that should really help. UW is also HUGE on service hours, so I would rack up on hours. As far as clubs honestly this late in the game it will be evident that you only joined them to impress admissions so I would just stick to what your doing with EC. SAT wise aim for 1200 and above. Good luck!
@Seattlelivin thanks for the reply! I am an in state student, thankfully. I think I could organize an LGBT+ club/organization at my school (for the diversity issue, as I’m gay myself). I’ve taken spanish for the last 4+ years which should help me, but I’ll also make sure to rack those community service hours up this summer (possibly get a varsity letter for it). I’ll stick to my clubs for now then, and thanks for the great advice!
